Puerto Vallarta Forum: Skyservice Airlines

 Skyservice Airlines

We booked a trip through signature vacations to PV which resulted in a wonderful stay at the Villa Del Palmar hotel.

The hotel is in an ideal location and is well run with wonderful amenities to please everyone.

The horrible part of the trip was getting to PV and back to Canada.

Skyservice has to be the worst airline that I have ever flown on. Departure was delayed 8-1/2 hours and leaving Puerto Vallarta resulted in a 27 hour delay where we spent most of the time on benches and the floor at the Airport. Sure, the company finally provided buses to get us to a hotel for some sleep, showers and food but in the meantime we just about died.

There was some small compensation with vouchers for a future holiday flight and $100 cash compensation but who would use this airline in the future anyway - so what good is a voucher for future flights.

Puerto Vallarta is wonderful but stay away from Skyservice flights out of Canada.

That's too bad1

May I suggest West Jet for your next trip?

All new 737-700planes... leather seats....tons of leg room (they took out seats to give everyone more leg room. My hubby is tall (over 6' and he says its the first time his legs had room

We had a delay going to Pv (mech problems before we took off) they gave us lunch vouchers at the airport and they gave me $500.00 voucher (there were 4 of us). No delays going back at all. You can book them through Transat holidays... just ask for a West Jet flight.

That's too bad about your experience! It's no fun.

We fly out of Pearson (Toronto) to Vallarta about 5 X per year and, quite frankly, we've had unfortunate experiences on every single regular carrier that flies there (Air Canada, American, Continental, etc.) and I know friends who've had trouble with Skyservice too. I"m afraid it's the luck of the draw on a given day.

My only real advice is, if you're going for one-two weeks, try to get a direct flight. We usually go for much longer at a stretch, but when we connect, it usually takes the whole day even if everything goes right. Things happen (mechanical failures, bottlenecks at Customs, fog, bad weather, etc., etc.) and you miss your connections when that happens.

We've only flown with Skyservice once - last year to Cancun- and had only a short delay on return flight. I love WestJet for domestic flights (I have to confess I also have a relative who works for them :-) ). So we did purposely choose one of their flights to PV. WRONG MOVE as it turned out. For some reason our return flight was canceled, and our only option was to switch dates - no other direct flights on that day. I'm not sure whether their int'l business isn't as good as they thought it would be or what the problem was. Our travel agent wasn't able to get a reasonable explanation from Air Transat Vacations. Unfortunately we can't book directly with the airline (WestJet) on charter flights, or I'm sure they would have been more accommodating. We've had many minor and a couple of major last minute delays with various airlines - the longest being a 24 hr delay and rerouting when flying with AeroMexico about 12 years ago. So I guess the point of my story is, that while annoying, and sometimes expensive (we could have booked a non-direct flight with Northwest or United for about twice the cost on our original dates), if you avoid all airlines that have ever given you a hassle you're probably going to have to give up flying. :-)

I will be taking skyservice to PV on March 9. Do you know what the delay was with the flight? I wonder if this is just happening lately with skyservice or they have a problem with PV. I have taken Skyservice to Cuba and the D.R. and everything was fine. No delays. Yikes.....

The 8-1/2 hour delay was mechanical and they had to fly in another aircraft and crew from Toronto.

The 27 hour delay was caused when a woman made a suicide attempt from Winnipeg to PV on the aircraft that was supposed to take us back and it had to land in Dallas.

The air crew were too traumitized to take on passengers and we had to wait until they could find another aircraft. Due to their limited resources with their small fleet it took some time.

All of the reasons for the delays were beyond their control, its just that Skyservice is small and is overextended with their resources. All carriers have problems but if you surf the net you will find that Skyservice is continually running into problems.

I just got back from PV and took Skyservice direct from Vancouver both ways. The flight was right on time leaving Vancouver and we were 15mins early arriving back to Vancouver. The service was good, the staff was friendly, but very little leg room and kind of junky looking planes, oh well its an economy flight, if you want first class you will have to pay more. :)

We just had the worst experience with charters and travelling agencies. NEVER BUT NEVER again we will be using those for vacation. We rather pay abit more with Air Canada and you know you will get satisfaction.

We travel a few times a year and work hard for our money and we deserve the best so "DO YOU" ??????!!!!!! : )

Luck of the draw I guess.

A few years ago we went to the airport in Cancun to return to Calgary only to find Canada 3000 - remember them!- went broke. We had to find our own way home at vast expense.

Otherwise we have been lucky- we deserve it!
