Congratulations Girl!!! You are getting to take the trip of a lifetime. Do not misunderstand me, I LOVE my husband and my crazy life, but about every two or three years I take a trip by myself. I just returned Friday from Canto Del Sol in Puerto Vallarta.
As a solo traveler and female let me offer some friendly tips. Stay alert-not paranoid, but aware of your space. Always look people in the eye-helps to discourage the bad guys and lets people know you are interested in being friendly, it is always respectful as well. Don't go out at night to the rowdier clubs and bars unless you have a group of people who will "sponser" you as one of them( ride with them in the cab, share a table area etc). Some people think that a single woman alone is looking for a man for a fling, and I am guessing that you are not!! DO NOT be on the beach by yourself at night.
I recommend taking a journal and recording the things in your life you realize you appreciate while you are there, or what you discover about yourself. I find the growth process from trip to trip amazing. I tend to make "to-do" lists of things I want to learn or become or be aware of and inevitably if I write it down it becomes real and attainable! It is really neat to see the growth in spirit and strength of character/soul!
I always come back home more refreshed, energized and grateful for my wonderfully-over full-hectic life, heck I even like laundry for about the first week home :-}!!
Enjoy the strength and courage it takes to make this trip by yourself and hopefully you will realize you like who you have become as a person. You do not need another travel companion, you just chose to have one at other times in your travels! Who knows you might start a whole new trend in your life-maybe I will see you on my next solo journey enjoying yours!
If all else fails, there will always be people everywhere and they will let you join them if you give a big smile and find an area of intrest for all-people watching is always a safe bet-we are better than animals at stupid tricks on vacations!
Best of luck and have a safe and delightful adventure!
