Beware of Store Front Medical Clinic!!!!!!!!!

BEWARE OF STORE FRONT MEDICAL CLINIC!!!!!!

Just wanted to let people know to beware of the store front medical clinic on main boulevard. My husband had a heat stroke and was taken there by ambulance. We thought we were going to the large hospital. (They called this a hospital.) Not what we had envision. They tried to say my husband needed all kinds of things he did not and that a special doctor needed to come. My daughter, who was fortunately with us is a RN and bilingual and realized the scam going on. In the end my husband got better and we were threaten to come up with $750 in 5 minutes or they were calling the police and said we do not want to make them mad. My daughter told them that they didn't need to call the police that she was going out on the street and flag down the police. Boy, were they surprised! We had about 10 police show up right away and they were on our side. The police got us a taxi and got us out of there!!!! There never was any kind of doctors report or official bill. BEWARE AND STAY AWAY!!!!!

Assuming you are referring to the old Balboa Clinic, there have been many tales of major overcharging tourists at this place.

What is valuable to know for visitors is that many of the hotels in the Golden Zone seem to have some sort of arrangement with this place, such that if you rely on them for emergency treatment while on vacation, you will probably be sent to them, with the possibility of problems. When we first went to Mazatlan ten years ago, a wise man told us that Sharp Hospital was the place to directly go to, do not pass go, do not collect 200 pesos! We have had occasion to use them, and have been totally satisfied. Very good staff, adequate English, and prices a little higher than you could probably get by shopping around (in an emergency?), and certainly comparable to what my Ontario coverage would allow back home. All very straightforward, and they take pains to keep the paper trail good for subsequent insurance claims.

One year we didn't follow this advice, went elsewhere to try to save some pesos. and it wasn't good news at all...nor was it Balboa.

If my assumption as to where you are referring to is wrong, then I apologize to all who are offended....some people have reported good experiences there, but when you're ill on vacation, you need good reliable treatment....

Wow, that is awful! That thought never entered my mind. We are going to Bucerias in January. Does anyone know where we can get good medical care there if needed?

The problem with this post is, there are at least 4 'Store front' clinics 'on the boulevard'. (That I know of) Without a name are we to assume they are all the same? A name would really be helpful.

I'm sorry I don't know the name of the place as we do not have any paperwork. The police just escorted us out of there into a taxi. It is about halfway between El Cid El Moro and Panchos on the ocean side of the street. They used a Suburban as an ambulance.

That sounds like the old Balboa Clinic. I think the name has changed within the past year. Sorry, I can't recall the new name.

It could very well be the one in front of the Costa De Oro as well. Not much to go on I am afraid.

A friend of mine went to the one in front of Costa De Oro with Bronchitis, and he was quite pleased with the treatment he received, so when I started feeling bad last March, I also went there. The Doctor was very kind and professional...I would tend to believe that this is NOT where the OP was taken. (I'm thinking it's the clinic located in the same strip as where Christine's was...probably the Balboa Club Clinic as mentioned above.)

Does this place look familiar?

If you click on Ambulances on this site you will see a Suburban type vehicle.

I thinking it might be like Mazexp mentioned, that this has changed owners as the website is not what we encountered at all. We also tried to get them to transfer us to the main hospital and they said the hospital would want $3,000 deposit before they would even talk to us even though we do have insurance.
