Our flights went smoothly, and after getting up at 4 AM we arrived in Mazatlan around 1 PM. Riding from the airport to the Golden Zone takes one from a bleak, run down scene of shacks that are surrounded by fence or wire to eventually a fairly modern tourist destination. It's a shocking contrast in lifestyle and wealth, or lack of it.
We arrived at El Cid El Moro, checked in, dodged the time share person, and hit the pool. The weather's great, and there's lots of pool chairs available. We started for the beach, but we were swarmed like locusts by vendors. Poor people trying to make a buck, no doubt, but it's hard to relax on vacation when people are lined up to sell you. We've not seen this kind of aggressiveness at the resorts on Mexico's east coast. I expect it when I'm shopping, but not when I'm trying to lounge on the beach.
We walked down to Fat Fish restaurant and had the ribs, since the tripadvisor posters speak so highly of the place and food. What a name. The ribs were good, price was 210 pesos or around $18 before tip. Very nice servers brought our food out quickly and kept checking on us while a guy played mellow guitar along with a karaoke type music machine. They don't take credit cards, so we're going to have to find places that do so we don't chew through all our cash. And we'll get some dollars exchanged for pesos tomorrow.
