So we were scheduled to leave Edmonton, Alberta today, early in the morning after a huge snow storm that occurred in the city yesterday that resulted in what might just be the worst car crash in Canadian history - 133 vehicles, 300 injuries - on the highway leading to the Edmonton Airport. So was I stressed and anxious to say the least knowing that our flight was scheduled to leave at 645 am, I didn't know what the road conditions were going to be like or the status of flights once I arrived at the airport.
Well, all my stress was for nothing! Edmonton City workers did a great job of cleaning up the mess overnight, Mother Nature did a great job of stopping the snow before midnight and the airport was running on time and on schedule. We arrived early just to be safe and thought it was going to make for a really long day. But our flight to Mazatlan was great, quick and we arrived EARLY.
To make the experience even better, even though I had paid to book my seats in advance, when I checked in online all of row one was available, so I changed our seats! So when we arrived in Mazatlan 15 minutes early, we were off the plane first, got through Immigration first, got our luggage first and was out and through customs and to the taxi kiosk before anyone else. By five minutes after our scheduled arrival time we were in a taxi and on the road! What an absolutely amazing experience and day.
So we arrived at the condo we are renting - Ocean Palms - and that was not without minor inconveniences but such is life. Will wait to report on that to see how the next few days pan out before saying anything negative. Our son wanted to nap and veg, play on his computer and watch Netflix so he did that on the deck overlooking the most amazing ocean view while we headed to Meg for the "staples" - wine, beer, rum, tequila, fruit, cereal and milk!
We got back to the condo unloaded our stuff and headed out to Loco's Loco's to say hi to everyone - everyone that is left that is. Most of the "regulars" that spend half the year down here have already left, really only about two couples left that we know. But we got to see Javier (his brother Jaime will be working tomorrow) and got lots of hugs and kisses from their great staff. I enjoyed the breaded shrimp which I have with the mango sauce that normally comes with the coconut shrimp for 100 pesos. My husband enjoyed a great rib eye for 160 pesos. My son had the Chicken Molcajete and my friend had the vegetarian as she is recovering from dental surgery and can't eat meat. Her husband had the chicken enchiladas which he said was excellent.
Came back to the condo early, exhausted from the travel day. Guys have gone to bed but I am enjoying having the patio doors open and listening to the surf while enjoying the cheapest wine I've ever had. Is it the best wine? No. But it is great for the price!
The weather was just fantastic today. Beautiful, sunny, warm but with a bit of a breeze to keep it comfortable.
So what's on the agenda for tomorrow? Well, we always enjoy the excellent and cheap breakfast at Loco's Loco's but we're at the opposite end of the Golden Zone this time around. So I think we'll try some recommended places a little closer to home. I really thought that we'd head to Mary's in the morning but upon further review I think that Jungle Juice will be our first stop for breakfast. Then it will be a day poolside enjoying the weather and the rum and fruit smoothies that we bought the ingredients for today! Dinner out will no doubt be outstanding, haven't exactly decided where yet but I have lots of excellent choices on the list. Stay tuned and I'll let you know tomorrow where we ate, what we had and how it was!
