While the Towers is kaput and unlikely to be revived, we have hope the Club will again be open for business someday. Perhaps 'remodeling' is resort speak for unwilling to admit closure. That place was a icon for many years. there is a photo at Puerto Nuevo bar in Olas Altas that shows just about nothing north of the Club back 'in the day.' The servicing company in Arizona that collects the annual maintenance fees confirms the 'remodel' and says we will not receive a bill for 2013, although we did pay for 2012 in connection with our Feb trip. So now thats out and we're looking at different locations. We were close with some of the regular beach vendors near the Towers and hope they find business to stay afloat, else the ripple effect of closures affect everyone. His name is Elias and rented beach gear from right in front of Towers. He showed us the 'other side' of MZT and for that for ever thankful. Wish we had a contact to send letters and maybe some $.

We were by there almost every day in November, not a soul there, and definitely no workers.

I had a freind that belonged to the original Balboa Club, he said it was very exclusive with some real high rollers coming in from New York, Chicago, Hollywood, Vegas, Reno ect to go hunting, drinking, & carousing.

Sadly he is gone & so seems is the Balboa Club.

Went by there yesterday AND today. I would think if they were really 'remodeling' there would have been some sign of life. Even a pile of sand or something. Alas, it was as busy as the surface of the moon.

I have noticed the last two weeks, there appears to be a couple people sweeping a lot......That's the most action it has seen in about two years.

Just returned from ten days in Mazatlan (Apr. 17-27, 2013) and, sadly, it is totally closed. We own Unit 3-B, a two-bedroom oceanfront unit. The street entrance is blocked and locked. We were able to access the property from the beach side, (disregarding a "Private Property" sign. There was one person watering the flowers. We ran into a long-time security guard on the beach and he told us the Club is totally closed and that all of the employees other than himself had been paid off through the end of April, 2013 and that he was the only one left. All of the vehicles that used to be parked there were gone and the Club is in total disrepair. The building from the beach is an eyesore. We are very sad as we loved the place and I guess our money is gone.

thanks for the update. Guess the promised 'remodeling' excuse was a ruse. Good thing we did not pay the annual dues bill. We always stayed in the end unit with the (defunct) out door jacuzzi. And yes, it appears the investment is gone... unless some miracle comes along. Its prime location and we always loved the old-school charm and peaceful quiet. wonder what happened to old Smoking Ken-- he was there almost every day...

What a shame...a prime location and it is becoming an eyesore.
