Does anybody know if the Wal-Mart has a grocery store inside the Wal-Mart, or do we have to go to a separate grocery store to buy food?

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

The Wal-Mart here is very similar to the Superstores in the US. There is a full size grocery store inside.

In addition to Wal-Mart, and in the same vicinity, are many other large grocery stores with a better selection than Wal-Mart. Mega (Gran Plaza), Gigante (El Cid south side entrance), Ley (just north of Wal-Mart). Sam's too is nearby. No problem finding lots of places to buy your groceries.

MazHelp is correct. There are better stores than Wal-Mart and they are all closer to the Golden Zone than Wal-Mart. Sorianna is another good store

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. Closer to the Golden Zone? yes... Gigante, Mega Comercial are closer to the Golden Zone.

But, no one has a better selection than Wal-Mart. (maybe Ley, but that's ONE MESSY supermarket)

I go to Gigante a lot just because it's closer, but if I'm looking for something very specific, I end up having to go to Wal-Mart anyway...

Our experience matches danelf.

Mega and Gigante are closest to the GZ by a long way (but a short bus ride!) than Walmart, and Soriana is even further. We shop at these two stores, but usually have to go to Walmart at some point to fill in the blanks...it is a little more expensive but more selection.

We went to Ley's once last year, across from Walmart, but after wandering around lost, and listening to two or three loud overhead messages going on at the same time, I decided that although I like the Mexican "ambience", shopping is not the right environment for me to enjoy it!.

Hi guys - while we are on the subject of grocery stores.....and my vote goes to Sorianna, can anyone tell me if Costco will be open by Jan. ? I love shopping "local" but there are just some things over the space of 3 months I can't seem to do without. Your help as always is mucho appreciated.

According to information on another site, there are no plans to build a CostCo in Mazatlan. The La Posta site? We're not sure.......

Yeah... we were all very excited about the posibility of a Costco in Mazatlan but it's not happening. Not yet anyway.

Where the old La Posta trailer park used to be they are now building a Mega Comercial. I guess they'll be closing the one at La Gran Plaza. So I'm now guessing that the closer supermarket to the hotels will be Mega Comercial and not Gigante.

Okay,

So we are staying at SunSpree and a Mega is going in next door if I'm reading right? We would both like to grab a few 'fixes' for our trips via bus will fill the void. So is Gigante or Ley the best fix for booze/fruit/water and how far are they from the Sunspree? And the distance? If possible we can walk...

If I am not mistaken, Sunspree is also Holiday Inn? If so, the old La Posta where SOMETHING is going in, is no where near that. Unless you are a world class walker, you won't want to walk the 4 miles or so to the Gigante. Then 4 miles back.
