Hello everyone;

According to our information, everyone is safe, for which we are grateful. StudentCity is doing our best to provide you with the information we have.

StudentCity - both its management and more than 50 onsite representatives - is working as quickly as possible to ensure the wellbeing and safety of its customers. Personnel are working with students who are feeling unfit for travel or have had to leave their belongings behind in the affected rooms. Students who are staying in Building 2 at Playa Suites will be re-accommodated while the hotel administration cleans the rooms. Travelers will be able to return to the affected building only when authorities confirm it is suitable to do so.

StudentCity is actively working with numerous parties, from the Hotel to the local authorities, to accommodate the students and ensure their wellbeing. Facts associated with the incident are still being collected and more information will be released as soon as these are confirmed.

We have been informed that some students are being allowed back into the hotel to collect their belongings. StudentCity has set up an area at El Alebrije with water, StudentCity staff members, and medical staff. Food is on the way for the students.

There are local police are guarding the hotel grounds to ensure there is no looting of any sort.

To speak with a StudentCity representative, please call 1-888-777-4642.

I posted this in the main thread, but for those who missed it,

It is also important to note that Studentcity is not the sole tenant at the Playa.

There are groups from STS Travel, Sun Splash Tours, and Bianchi Rossi that stay there as well.

This might be useful for those of you looking for travelers who are not staying with Studentcity.

My daughter's and her roomate's money was stolen from their safe. Although Student City says they are making arrangements, my daughter's brief tearful call to me said she didn't know what was going on or what would happen to them, no one has conveyed any information to the students who have been displaced. Has anyone contacted the US Embassy to find out if the US Gov't is aware and doing anything to assist, especially since their money was stolen as well?

My son may be seriously ill, he was the person who tied a wet t-shirt around his face and climbed the 18 floors to get everyone out, since the authorities were not doing so.

He is with a group from Westfield State College. He could barely talk last time I spoke to him, I think he got smoke inhilation damage.

His cell phone is dead and I know he is waiting at the airport. If anyone else has a cell phone number that I could call to see if he is alright, I would greatly appreciate. I can't get through to the mexican airport and he won't be getting in until 9:30 tomorrow morning. I am very afraid that he needs medical attention, and being young he may not get it.

Please help me.

hi.. my son is still there.. he was supposed to be back by now, but because of delays, he is there. student city has yet to provide food for the students. NO FIRE ALARMS WENT OFF..!!!! UNBELIEVEABLE. friends called them to wake them up.. what a disgrace. this is a student spring break trip from STUDENT CITY.COM.... NO FOOD, HE HAS NO MONEY... wallet still in the room, along with his belongings.... we're wondering if he'll make the flight tonight with or without his luggage.
