This is the most common question we are asked when we talk about the Family Islands. We have been to Long Island three times, Staniel Cay twice, plus visits to Andros, and Eleuthera and it seems many would rather take the single international flight to Nassau and call it done. In a way, this works to the advantage of those who have discovered the unique beauty of these islands, keeping the crowds away and preserving the experience. For us, it is all about the beach, and so far we have not found one that tops Cape Santa Maria on Long Island. Pristine white sand with a large crystal clear bay keeps us coming back.
To answer my own question....yes, it is worth the extra time and connecting flight! And if all of the glowing reviews and forum trip reports are not enough to help those considering adding an Out Island to their itinerary, I'm including a 'video trip report' link below to try and visually show what Long Island and Staniel Cay have to offer.
It is kind of a corny video, and after I completed it I realized that there is a fine line between iconic and cliché shots. I think I may of erred on the side of cliché a little too often..ha..ha
