1 Week on Seneca Lake - Suggestions?

We will be spending next week at a rental house about 10 minutes south of Geneva on the east side of Seneca lake. We'd like to hike, bicycle, visit any area breweries and other interesting places. So far we plan to hike in Watkins Glen Park. Does anyone have suggestions for other hikes, non-road biking, casual restaurants, boat rentals or other things to do?

Thanks,

Ron

Try hiking/biking in the Finger Lakes National Forest, or on the Keuka Outlet Trail. Visit the Wagner Valley Brewery in Lodi or Roosterfish Brewing in Watkins Glen. Rent boats at Roy's Marina across the lake from you. Eat at the Stonecat Cafe or Red Newt Bistro in Hector, and maybe The Crow's Nest in Fayette/Waterloo. There is a little military history in Sampson State Park. Tons of great wineries. Enjoy the Lake!

The Red Dove in Geneva is a great dining option. I agree w/the Stonecat and Red Newt recs (both are great as well).

There are some nice places to ride a bike including a trail between Geneva and Waterloo and the Catharine Valley Trail ilovethefingerlakes.com/recreation/statepark… which runs south from the harbor in Watkins Glen. You can take a boat our on the lake from the harbor.

The Catharine Valley Trail is roughly 10 miles one way. You can actually ride all the way down to Mark Twain State Park along that trail. The other trail (Waterloo to Geneva) is about 5 miles one way. To find its trail head, turn onto Huff St at the intersection of Washington St. (State Rt. 96) at the Lock 4 in Waterloo. Drive down Huff St. just a short ways. You will see a fenced-in area across from the lock. Go through the gate and park. The trail head is there. It's a popular, shaded trail along the canal. There's park on the other side of the lock where you can picnic.

If it rains, you could drive to Waterloo and visit the Memorial Day Museum or to Seneca Falls to the Women's Rights National Historic Park which has a number of buildings to explore. The town clerk's office in Waterloo on Main St. has maps of the town. It has wonderful architecture. You absolutely must see the inside of the library! Ask the librarian to take you upstairs.

We like the Deerhead Inn in Seneca Falls on Cayuga Lake for a good local place to eat. It's reviewed here on TA.
