@hocndoc - They were especially brutal this year, sorry to hear you had them too, we were in N Palmetto mature area on the banks. I have never seen them so bad.
@rbw137 - I was totally miserable with them this year. Never in my life have I been bitten like that. I am used to the Island and always wear long pants (extra large cotton pj bottoms for the deck at night, socks, long sleeves etc. This year they were out and about during the day too. I was a topic of discussion when we went out to eat as so many people came up to me or pointed at me, and commented on the degree of bites that I had.
@LisaCUK - We brought 3 bottles of musk-oil liquid, 1 bottle of musk-oil cream, deep woods off wipes and an Off personal fan thing. and although it did work where directly applied, they still bit through my clothes, I was forever "eating" the stuff because it was all over my hands too. I bought an arsenal of products fro Eleuthera Supply & Burrows, and as you said max 25% does nothing. I even bought bug bombs and fumigated our rooms, sprayed a Dr. Doom type product too. We closed all of the windows in the house from dusk until about 8 am, because they were coming through the screens.
@joyceMa - No, it was not our first time in Eleuthera. We did have no seeums in Exuma, but they were only there during the magic hours dusk/dawn. They were not around when the sun was up. Nor were they as thick as we had in Eleuthera.
I hope you have a wonderful stay at Jericho - we really loved the place and the owners are just super!
The only thing that I can think of that was different this year, is that there was a lot of rainfall, making the area we stayed in very damp and cooler in the shrubbery. Even when the temperature was as high as 85 degrees, they were still around the house and deck.
I hope to have a trip review up soon.
