beaches in Freeport, bahammas

I will be spending one day when we arrive via a cruise ship in a few weeks. Does anyone know of a beautiful beach we can easily get to? Any suggestions for lunch?

Unfortunately from what I remember of the harbor area there are no beaches close by so you will need a taxi. Taxi's are inexpensive and friendly, not always in the best of shape but driversknow where to take you. There used to be a fabulous restauarant at the harbor called Pier One but unfortunately it was taken out a couple years ago during one of the hurricanes...supposed to be rebuilt but not completed on my last visit a few months ago. I stay at Pelican Bay at Lucaya Beach, nice beach across the street at the Westin and a ton of good local restaurants and bars in the marketplace at Port Lucaya which is across the street as well as a casino. Enjoy, I love GBI, great island and friendly people....not crowded like Nassau.

Trying Great Exuma Island next week, can't wait! Hope this helps a bit....

If you want to be where all the action is, and the best restaurants, then the beach at the Our Lucaya resort is probably where you'll want to go.

There is a very nice beach at the Island Seas Resort, and Bikini Bottom Bar & Grill and Toad's at the Beach are both within walking distance, as well as Coconuts which is the onsite restuarant.

Taino Beach Resort has a lovely beach, and a beachside restaurant that you can eat at. A little further down is Taino Beach Park, where the cruise ships sometimes hook up with Junkanoo Beach Club to offer a beach break. There are facilities at the park.

Coral Beach by the Coral Beach Hotel is long and beautiful, with excellent swimming. There at least used to be a little bar & grill there, but I'm not sure if it's still open or not now.

Paradise Cove is the other direction, and does charge an admission fee, but is a popular place for cruise passengers to hang out because of the excellent snorkeling.

Hope this helps, have a great time!
