Questions about Reef, Markets,etc |
|
We are leaving on our trip on Saturday and will be in Ft Lauderdale and fly on Spirit to Nassau. How is Spirit Airlines? When we get there well take a taxi to Atlantis but want to stop at a market on the way. How much are the taxis to Atlantis with a stop. We are staying at the Reef Studio Terrace. Does the Reef upgrade? Should I tip for an upgrade or just ask and then tip? I want to eat Dinner at Mesa Grill one night and Carmines. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Sorry for So many Questions. Thanks You |

yes I have heard an upgrade is possible but it all depends... No way you can speculate ahead of time. IMO you ask and tip if you are lucky enough to get one. Tipping ahead of time to see if you get an upgrade seems more like a bribe to me. Taxi I believe is somewhere around $30 for first 2 passengers, with an additional charge per person after that... Sorry by if you do a search you will find exact rates. Stopping on the way to shop is a negotiation.

We returned from a wonderful stay at the Reef about 2 weeks ago! My husband and I asked every which way for any type of upgrade, but they were pretty businesslike at the Reef. They said if we would like the bigger room they would be happy to see if one was available and then she provided me with the cost of the upgrade. IMO, at least the day we were there, there was not going to be any upgrades. They were very nice, but very curt and businesslike. We were awarded a room on the 11th floor (moved up from a lower floor when we asked) and it was beautiful.

DrmnOfMaui .....good to hear you had a great time. I am just curious....was the move to a higher floor considered an upgrade...like from terrace view to harbor view or ocean view?

I've flown Spirit from Ft Lauderdale to Nassau. It's such a short flight, that it was fine, I don't really have a huge opinion on Spirit. Just another airline IMO. For taxis with a stop, it seems to depend on what kind of taxi you get. What kind of things are you planning on getting? There is a small store in the Anthony's plaza. Remember if you're getting anything refrigerated your room might not be ready. Whatever you do, agree on a price before getting in (with a stop...) As for the upgrade, if you really care about the better room, just book it. And it's a bribe, not a tip, sorry. But it's always worth asking to see what's available. It'll depend on who you talk to, what's available, and who's watching. As for dinner, Mesa Grill is ages 6+ only. You can make reservations. Carmines only takes reservations for large groups, so just be sure you're prepared for a wait if things seem busy at the resort!

Baj, no I don't think so. We had reserved an ocean view room and that is what we got. She simply moved us up higher at our request (I had read that the view was better higher). We did have an incident where a window in the room broke, there was a sliding glass window between the bedroom and the bathroom. My daughter closed it and it shattered on her. She was not seriously injured, however they did upgrade us to a one bedroom suite after that! He hotel manager has informed us that since the incident (we weren't the first to have it happen) that all the windows are being replace and changed. I'm not sure what they are changing them too though. Our one bedroom was on the harbour side, and while we were a bit bummed at first, it turned out to be very quiet, relaxing and still a beautiful view. We really enjoyed watching the cruise ships come and go and the colors of the ocean were just gorgeous.

So what I need to do to get an upgrade is break a window...OK...got it....lololol....JUST KIDDING! Man....I hope your daughter is OK....thats pretty scary. From what you say, sounds like a design flaw that they are aware of. From the one bedroom harbor room, were you still able to see the ocean at all?

Oh we saw lots of ocean! Personally I think the only negative is that when you take in the whole view you also see a parking lot off to your left and the generator trailers. You see an beautiful strand of ocean! Also you see the town, the whole harbour, and we loved watching the cruise ships. One evening we had friends over and we all had dinner out on the balcony (it's double on the one bdroom!) and saw the lights of the city, the cruise ships in port and one that was docking along with some lightning off in the distance. It was actually my favorite meal of the whole week! Yep, we've told my daughter that from now on wherever we go she has to get a little hurt to get us a better room! ;) She was a good sport... just a few cuts on her fingers and little scratches on the front of her legs. She mostly felt bad because something broke. Lots of tears, but nothing really badly hurt. The hotel staff was absolutely fantastic. I've never met so many nice people. And we got to meet a lot of people! 3 maintenance, 2 security, 1 I'm not sure who he was, Zeldarine from the front desk (she put us all back in vacation mode, calmed us all down and fixed everything!) and Sean the hotel manager. Everyone was so caring, and just did their best to make sure that our vacation was ok. The break happened about 20 minutes after we arrived, so not the best start after a long day of flying from California. I've been meaning to write a review... I'll get to that in a day or two!

I meant to sum up... if given the choice of a jr suite ocean view or a 1 bedroom harbour view, take the one bedroom! (And I'm one who is fairly picky on the view..._)

The Ocean Resort view is worth every penny. It's as good as it gets.
