Other than air travel, are there any options via water travel to get to Nassau or Freeport? Ferry? Freighter? Florida to Bahamas 'carpool-type' for 'ship'-hiking'?

Discovery cruise is a day cruise from Ft. Lauderdale to Freeport. You don't have to come back that day, return when you want.

There is also a "mail" boat, takes forever. (a week in between islands?)
