So I have two business meetings in Florida..with a week in between...and thought maybe I should jet down to bahamas for a little sun and sand.

I have traveled alone to many places...but am nervous on whether Nassau might be too "couples only" or "families"? Any thoughts would be great?

Mostly just want to relax, read a book, have a massage...go out to a bar (but not feel un-safe or all alone!).

Let me know your thoughts....

I am 40 and went to Cable Beach the Raddisson with my daughter and her friend 13 and trust me i was alone 99% of the time they were never with me and i felt very safe. I was at the bar at the resort until they closed and had to walk back to my room alone and still felt safe just use caution as you would anywhere you were alone and don't know anyone. Plus i met alot of people very friendly but then again i very talktive that including locals. Wish i were going again go and have yourself a good time. Dallas1

You should be fine as long as you stay within in the immediate vicinity of the hotels and I would recommend that you stay at a larger one, if in Nassau or Grand Bahama.

Precaution and awareness should also be used in the smaller beautiful Out Islands.

It is absolutely not safe to walk alone in Nassau, along any of the "strips". i.e. along Cable Beach area etc. when it is dark. This is true of couples/small groups as well

Dowtown Nassau day shopping is fine to do.

I'm sorry to have to give this warning, I've lived here for many yrs but feel I owe to at least alert people to the very real dangers. (the threat comes from a very small segment of society).

Be very careful..we were on Cable Beach in july..Our 19 yr.old son was robbed in town, right next to the straw market. We were not concerned about the money (50$), but it could have been alot worse..He could have been killed..It was a nightmare. Good Luck and be careful...

Netsie ~ that's terrible! In broad daylight!

Did you report it to the Police?

People, please take note of that experience

The Bahamas Police Force has recently, I think in the last two weeks, introduced a special task force that attends exclusively to the safety of visitors. I hope that deters the thugs.

Tapirgirl, where did you find your great rate? I'm planning to visit in a few months and had decided to go with Nassau Beach as well. Please let us know about your experience traveling alone.

Also, I don't know if you're familiar with the Bahamas' People to People program, but they will match you with someone that has similiar interests and you can decide if you want to go sightseeing, shopping, or have a meal together, etc. Just in case you need a friend in Nassau. Have fun and be safe!!

Seven...

You should be OK as long as you don't go out alone. I was on the street around 10:00 am on a Sunday, I was robbed also. I would not advise you to go out at night at all.
