Go to stjohnbeachguide.com and pick the one that fits your personality (for that day). There are excellent descriptions of all of the St John beaches, along with descriptions on what they are best for.

We go every year and LOVE to snorkel! All the ones mentioned are great!!! Don't waste your money on a snokel excursion or at TRUNK BAY - that place is overated and they charge you. You can see much more sea life at the places mentioned. Oh, its 'Lenister Bay'!

The Westin beach is ok if you just want to get some sun. As for

snorkling Cruz Bay is dead no coral everything is white. Too many years of boats anchoring in the bay....stay away

Just got back! Stayed below Coral Bay, near Salt Pond Bay. Although we also visited several other beaches, we definitely recommend that one also -- the snorkeling is wonderful, and there's not many other folks there.
