We have been to St. John numerous times and have always stayed in a villa. We're headed down to St. John in July, and my husband wants to try Gallows Point Resort. He wants to be closer to Cruz Bay, etc. I'm considering it, but I love the villa experience too. Can I get some feedback from folks who have stayed in both a villa and at Gallows Point?

Thanks!

Kim

Hello,

We have always stayed in hotels but this time we will be staying in a villa. We leave in less than a month. I will post the pros and cons when I get back. We will be staying in the Coral bay area. In the past we stayed at the Westin but I was very disappointed in their beach. The resort is lovely but it forced us to get out and explore other beaches. I'm happy that we did. Now with a villa we will be able to explore both sides of the island with our jeep. I do hear good things about Gallows Point Resort but I think they have increased their prices because of all the positive press. It's cheaper to do a villa in July. Just MHO. Sometimes you just have to try new things.

A resort is more relaxing than self serve.

Good luck and I'll post when I get back.

My husband and I have stayed at both villas in St.John and Gallows....we really enjoyed both. They each have their ups and downs. Gallows is very strict about noise....which was not a problem for us, but might be for some (example: music playing after a certain hour). However, it is an easy walk into town which we really enjoyed. Try it out at Gallows! It is a lovely place and the views are excellent (I definately suggest an oceanview upper-we stayed in 7D which was fabulous). Gallows has a nice little convenient store on the premises which is nice. They can set up excursions or do something as simple as call you a taxi. And ZoZo's restaurant is nice if you haven't eaten there.

We will be heading back this august and will be renting a villa (we have another couple joining us). We go through private homes for private vacations which have gorgeous homes...but just like most, they are pretty far from town but very close to the beaches. It's a trade off.

Atleast they both have kitchens!!!

Good luck and have fun

Sarah

Thanks for the info. There's a slight possibility we'll have a couple others joining us....if that's the case...we'll stay in a villa. But, if it's just the two of us....we'll be at the Gallows.
