Caneel Bay Resort beaches day admission??? |
|
Is it true that you can got to the Caneel Bay Resort beaches as a day admission? I've read a couple places that you can visit Caneel Bay beaches by signing in at the front-office as a day admission. This sounds great if its true, I just haven't heard if you can visit all of the beaches or just a portion. I'm really interested in visiting Turtle Bay, Honeymoon beach, etc. Can any one confirm if this is true? And if so, if there are any costs or limitations associated. Thanks very much! LTJ |

The main beach at caneel is caneel beach, you can visit that beach but you will not have access to the other beaches from the land. all beaches are public property unfortunately the walkways are private. I believe you can hike on a trail from cruz bay through the national park to Honeymoon beach.

You can park in the visitor lot at Caneel and hike to Honeymoon beach - it's a pretty easy hike.

WE parked and walked the entire property. Swam in many of the beaches and hiked around the point, no problems.

Officially, you will be told to stay on Main Caneel. But, you can walk to the others. My impression is that you would probably not be hassled by security, especially if you keep things low key (don't use the beach chairs or floats). Also, as noted above you can park in the Caneel lot and walk a short path to Honeymoon or hike there from Cruz Bay as well. The hike from town starts at the Park Service office and takes 20-30 minutes.

You can hike to Honeymoon Beach on the national park trail. And the public Hawksnest Beach is just across the bay from Caneel's own Hawknest. You can see Turtle Bay by having dinner at the Turtle Bay Estate House, but I suspect you want to enjoy the beach. I don't believe the prob with visitors is related to the beach chairs, etc. as the resort has more chairs than people at the beaches. The problem, especially with Scott Beach, is that "visitors" tend to walk right in front of the front doors to the rooms, an area that is supposed to be for the folks who've paid the price to be there. So, if you do stroll around Caneel, respect the rights of the people who've paid a pretty penny for their privacy and cut your own trail through the trees -- there's plenty of space!
