It got big on St. John, then spread to Florida. It was on Good Morning America and also on BBC.
Steve hit it big with that one! If you follow his Facebook page he seems excited about it.
That was amazing to watch! Where do the crabs go? Does this just happen once a year? Any background on this event?
This is a mating and egg-laying migration. Eggs are laid in the sea and baby crabs spend their early life there. It occurs every August, but only in a few locations; and it only lasts a couple of hours.
BTW they are called soldier crabs in the VI, land crabs are the very large crabs that live in big holes in wetlands in the region.
