we are staying at Gallows Pt. and understand there is snorkeling to be had right from the resort. What a great way to start the day. Anybody ever snorkeled there and if so, how was it? Are there many sea urchins to navigate when getting in the water?

Snorkeling there is a great way to start the day. There were lots of fish when we were there at the end of April. There were parrot fish and sergeant majors, tangs and many more. We loved it. They have built a walkway/ramp to access the water -this really helps avoid the sea urchins. Its much better than trying to negotiate the rocks. You'll have a great time. Gallows is wonderful :)

If you scroll down, Tethered gave great instructions on exactly where to snorkel by Gallows. (Never went there myself) I know it's rocky, but don't recall her mentioning sea urchins, but don't go by me. Or just keep bumping till she's back from STJ!

We were there two years ago and the snorkeling was okay. Don't be surprised to see Oscar, the barracuda that is often seen around the dock! We never had a problem with the sea urchins. I think you'll enjoy having the ability to snorkel right there, but there is definately better on the island!
