My family of 4 just got back from staying a week in St. John. We absolutely loved Maho Bay and felt it was second favorite, right behind Trunk. (Which we only visited on non-cruise ship days.) Park your Jeep among the trees and walk across the road...right to the beach! On the right side, there is a bit of coral, which was nice. My sons saw barracudas and stingrays, along with lots of bait fish. The beach was never crowded on the 2 days we were at that particular beach. There are some sea grape trees for shade. I don't recall there being a food stand where we were. Perhaps there is on the Little Maho side, where the eco-tents are. What we did is stop at the Deli Grotto (in Mongoose Junction) in town on our way to the beach...they have the best sandwiches to take along! On a side note, Maho is where we met the crew of Allura for a half-day sail which I highly recommend! You can book through www.sailallura.com. It was a wonderful experience and they took us to 2 spots for snorkeling that could not be reached otherwise. Report as inappropriate

There are no concessions on Maho, but the campgounds have some limited facilities. Bring your own food and drink is the best advice. Maho has very gentle surf and easy entry for beginning snorkelers, or those like myself with arthritis. There are no reefs, but the seagrass attracts turtles, rays, small fish and larger ones that feed off of them. It is popular with locals for cook-outs. The road is almost on the beach with parking spaces clearly marked along the side. Keep your food safe from wildlife. Lots of it in the area. Report as inappropriate
