Could anyone tell me what the costs are to take sailing trips from Sapphire Marina to BVI and to St John??
It all depends on the tour operator and what they offer onboard. Google New Horizons St Thomas and check their website. That's a good place to start.
Also take a look at Stormy Petrel/Pirates Penny site, they depart Red Hook, hit STJ then on to the bVI, very good reviews, less crowded boats.
The New Horizons trip to the British Virgin Islands is $150 per person, however discounts are available depending on where you are staying. Depending on how many people you have it may be worth chartering a private boat. Typically this is about $600 a day plus gas, so if you have 5-6 people it may be cheaper, plus you get the boat to yourself and get to decide your own itinerary. If you only want to go to one island and rent snorkel gear it way be cheapest to take a ferry. St. John is very easy to get to, the passenger ferry is only $12 per person round trip and leaves out of Red Hook. If you are renting a car you can take the car ferry for $50 round trip and they do not charge extra for passengers. Try to plan St. John on a day when there are no cruise ships. If you happen to go on a busy day you can get off the beaten path and check out the south side of the island, look for Coral Bay for lunch and check out Lameshur Bay for a swim and snorkel.
If you are looking to do a private charter you can see the following links:

Hope this helps
