Gentle Winds - Snorkeling

Hello,

Does anyone know how the snorkeling is from the shore at Gentle Winds Condos?

Thank-you

The snorkeling is just okay there. They have a small area roped off in the ocean which is all sandy. If you go beyond the ropes you will see huge brain coral. You will see more if you can get over the breaks.

If you go down the beach towards the East before Columbus landing, you will see some old pier piling's, good snorkeling there. The water is very shallow. Watch for the sea urchins.

"Down the beach" is stretching it a bit. The shore just to the east of Gentle Winds turns into a very narrow strip of loose coral rock (the sand is gone) for quite a ways before changing back to sand. At high tide its mostly covered by water in spots. It's probably easier to just drive over to Columbus Landing park and go out from there.

Depending on the time of the year, it is quite easy to go out through a cut in the reef close to shore at Gentle Winds. The snorkeling out there is great! Also, Gentle Winds is only a 10 minute, scenic drive from beautiful Cane Bay. The snorkeling at Cane Bay beach is some of the best on the island and there is also 3 beach bars, a dive shop (you can rent snorkel gear there), kayak rentals and great swimming.

It's not that bad walking from Gentle Winds to Columbus landing. You may have to get in the water to walk around some rocks but it is only ankle high. The walk is beautiful. Have your water shoes on.

Enjoy!
