Any hot snorkeling spots near Hotel on the Cay? |
|
We'll be staying at the HOTC for a week in December? Anyone know of any great snorkeling areas near there? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Report as inappropriate |
|
You can snorkel right off the beach at HOTC. Since you enjoy snorkeling, I would recommend renting a car for a couple of days and exploring some of the other beaches also. Check out www.visitstcroix.com for a list of the beaches with the best snorkeling. Also, be sure to take a trip out to Buck Island. There are several shops in town where you can book Buck Island trips. We went with Big Beard and had a great time. Report as inappropriate

Thanks for the info. I already knew most of that. What I'm looking for is the "Go to the lagoon that is next to the 3 crossed palm trees. 50 feet out there is a coral formation where you will find a big green eel and several Angels" type of info. Report as inappropriate

ok, how about a GREAT snorkeling spot anywhere on the island? Report as inappropriate

VegasMan, The north end off the hotel on the Cay is the best snorkel spot. Go out to where the hotels water sports equipment is and head north and around the hotel. You'll have to pass a lot of turtle grass and then there is a shallow reef that leads to a drop off. We saw tons of parrot fish, lobsters and angel fish there. There are some barracudda's hanging out in the turtle grass so just be aware. I stayed at the Pink Fancy and some friends of ours recommended the hotel's snorkeling. We found it on the last day which was unfortunate as I was pleasantly surprised. Go with MileMark sports to Buck Island. If you repeat trips with them, they give you a 50% discount for your second trip. Let me know if you need more information. Report as inappropriate

Vegasman, Go to the Mirage and ask if you can get in the tank behind reception Report as inappropriate

NCDiver, Thank you very much, that's what I was looking for. A few barracudas is no big deal. In April while snorkeling off Isla Mujeres in Mexcico there was 40 around this large rock, no more than 15 feet from me. Colin, Shows you know nothing about Las Vegas. The best diving would either be at Mandalay Bay with the sharks, or at the Silverton with the mermaids. Report as inappropriate

Wasnt trying top show off my Vegas knowledge - as you so rightly point out, I dont have much. Just trying to add a little levity. Apparently unsuccessful. Well, bet I keep trying Report as inappropriate

The levity was apreciated. Pretty funny actually. Look forward to more of it. Report as inappropriate
