I know that it is probably a no brainer, but I am having a hard time deciding which place to stay. Carambola has some great deals for $600. less than the Buccaneer. That spells more money for exploring! But in the big scheme of things, I want to be happy where we are staying. Remote versus near Christiansted. They both are nice. My husband and I will be renting a car so transportation around the island isn't the issue. We are not into all the frills. We want to explore the island and he will do some dives and I enjoy snorkeling. My husband may play golf which both resorts offer. We are doers and not loungers who read and sun. After a busy day of activities, it is nice to come back to your resort and have drinks and relax. You know, reflect on the day and plan for tomorrow. But I don't want to be exciled to my room and cable TV. We are casual people that don't want to dress up or party at night, but it would be nice if you could hang out casually at your resort and listen to music. Is it safe to stay in town and drive back at night? How are the roads from town to the Carambola Resort? Also how is the parking availability and safety? I keep reading how the Carambola Beach Resort is so remote. I don't want to be in an isolated area. It appears to be in a good location, half-way between Frederiksted and Christiansted. I have read that the beach is rocky. But are you able to snorkel from shore? Also a "Cruise Person" posted that crabs were on shore and that another cruise person cut their foot on the rocks. The Buccaneer forum shows three nice beaches, but you have to walk 50 yards from their beach to go snorkeling. Something about seaweed on their beach? Neither have a kitchenette so we will be doing light breakfasts or eating out for all meals. Are there any restaurants near the Carambola other than those on site? One comment on the forum stated that they stayed at the Carambola their last visit, but are staying at the Buccaneer this time. I would like to know why they changed. Please give some plus or negatives for each resort.

I guess I want answers to these questions before deciding to stay at the Carambola Beach Resort:

1. Is it on a road that is easily accessible and easy to travel to the different locals on the island?( In the forum someone wrote that they got lost and the roads weren't marked good)

2.What can we expect as far as traveling from this area to get to other parts of the island?( It may be fewer miles to get to some sightseeing locations than the Buccaneer, but do you travel the same roads? Is the Buccaneer located off a different road that the Carambola and is one better than the other?

3. Can you snorkel from the beach or can you walk a few yards to where you can enter the water to snorkel, also how is the under-tow?

( I like calm water with no 100 foot walls)

4. Is there any activity or restaurants nearby?

(Do we have to go in town for all entertainment or does the resort offer a bar and steel drum bands on any evenings?)

5. Which resort has the best views from the beach and why?(Are there any Cays or islands in the horizon?)

6. Do you see the sunset differently from one than the other?

Azure,

Sorry...no scuba divers here. I've snorkled, but my wife is a newby. I'm sure we'll have a great time exploring the waters together. I do hope your husband finds a scuba buddy.

Only 1 week to go...my wife and I can't wait! We don't arrive in STX until Sunday mid-afternoon. After we get a car and drive to The Buccaneer, it might be 5pm or so before we can hit the beach. We'll try to catch up with everyone at the beach bar.

Thanks to all the Tripadvisor posters!! Your input has definitely taken a LOT of the stress out of planning and choosing a vacation destination.

Come on Friday!!
