My family is thinking about booking a Doubloons room at the Buccaneer, any comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

It would help to know a bit more about your family--number of people and ages.

The doubloons are very nice accommodations--one very big room with a lovely bathroom and beautiful porch area.

But we prefer to stay in the somewhat less luxurious family cottages to give us and our kids some privacy and elbow room while staying at the Buccaneer.

It might also help to know when you are going as they do run some specials for oceanfront rooms (2 for 1 1/2 price I believe) during the summer months. And many families we know prefer that arrangment.

Hey Ccrosner--

Are the family cottages the rooms that have a view of the golf course? Just curious. My niece just honeymooned there and stayed in those rooms and LOVED it. Before they booked I told them to make sure they get a room with an ocean view, but after seeing the pictures on her laptop of the view of the golf course and island beyond, I'd stay there in a heartbeat!

I am sure you will like the Doubloons--they are lovely. I have seen others on this board and other boards mention that it is best to request the units that are furthest from the Mermaid building. You get a better view of the water that way (the first building always seems quite lush with vegetation).

Another option you might consider is the Frigate or Ficus Suite or two luxury oceanview (my favorite rooms). We know people who stay in the suite with their two kids and like it very much and it's close to the pool. The luxury oceanview are along the "ridge" next to the Great House. They are nicely decorated with lovely bathrooms and have french doors out to a patio that is high up looking out to the sea.

We stayed in one of the Doubloon rooms one time. They are large, with huge closets, bathrooms and so on. Very, very nice. I think there are better options for your family. The Family Cottage suites are on the walkway from the Great House down to the beach and seem nice enough. I prefer staying in the Great House. More convenient for breakfast and late night bar visits. The Buc website has a property map that should show you which rooms sit where on the property. You could get two rooms in the Great House for the same price or better than the cost of the Doubloons. Call the reservation dept. & ask for some help as to what to do. They are very helpful. It's a neat resort and a great island. Good Luck.
