I've gotten smarter with age and plan to protect my skin as much as possible on this trip. Does Caneel supply umbrellas for the week? If not, does anyone sell them on the island?

Yes, there were two in our room last week. If there's none when you arrive, just ask at the front desk.

The umbrellas in the rooms are for the rain.Depending on where your room is you might have an umbrella on your porch/patio but there are no umbrellas directly on the beach.The park service will not allow caneel to disrupt the natural views with umbrellas.There are many shade trees to escape the direct hit of the sun,but I would also invest in a wide brim hat,my husband had a waterproof hat that he even wore while snorkeling.It was quite a sight but it protected him from the sun.

duh! I guess I missed the point of the post...I think I need another trip back to STJ to get my bearings!

Although, I did see some locals using the rain umbrellas for shade from the sun in Cruz Bay...
