What restaurants are withing walking distance of the Royal Wets Indies? Is is worth $400 to rent a car for the weeK? What about the Gecko shuttle. Can you get off on either side of the street or do you have to make the loop. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Anacoana is nearby, as is the Gecko Grille. You're about a 15 minute walk from the Ports of Call shopping center, which has a couple of small, informal restaurants. Walk a little farther down the beach (1/2 hour beautiful, quiet walk) and you can get to Hemingways and Bay Bistro. I don't know if you need the car for a whole week, but you should certainly get out and see the island for a day or two. Head to Turtle Cove Marina for some other really good restaurants (Sharkbite, Tiki Hut).

The Gecko Shuttle ran between Beaches and Ocean Club West when I was there, and it was more of a loop rather than a out-and-back, so whether you have to make the loop or just get off depends on where you're going. Even if you have to make the loop, though, it shouldn't take you more than an extra 20 minutes to get where you want to go.

If you are spending the money to go to Provo - flights and accomodations, plus food costs which are not cheap, bite the bullet and get a car. You cannot truly enjoy an island and all it has to offer by staying at an all inclusive or only eating and doing things in walking distance. Walking on the roads can be somewhat difficult because they are not in the best of shape and there is not a lot of room for people walking on the side of the road. $400 - you can spend that on two nights dinners. TRy all the great places. We go out for lunch and dinner daily when there, plus with a car you can explore the island, not just a resort. ''Good restauarants: Tiki Hut, Sibonne', Caicos Cafe, Sharkbite, Anancaona, Italian place on the main highway - cannot remember name. Be adventurous!
