Palms vs T&C Club - HELP |
|
My other half & I have already reserved (and paid for) a room at the Palms in May.
We reserved a garden room for about $300 per night (total $2564). While it does look beautiful, I'm concerned about the noise levels - in the room, at the pool, and especially on the beach.
As a birthday gift, I'm considering upgrading the reservations to the Turks & Caicos club and letting it be a surprise.
The 7 day cost difference is about $2200 for an ocean front room at the T&C Club.
We really just want a very quiet, extremely relaxing trip with a nice, comfortable room.
Is the T&C Club worth the extra cash? Both look really nice on the web sites... but it's hard to judge noise and service.
Is there a better alternative all together? Thanks for any help.

The Somerset is another upscale property very quiet nice pool w/ bar and grill and restaurant for evening dining

The upgrade cost is really for OCean Front versus garden view not the proeprties themselves. T&CC is nice but in a more quiet section of the beach (read you will drive from there). There is construction two properties over. I personally would not switch them. Rather I would look at upgrading at THe Palms or the other alternatives. From The Palms you wont have an issue with construction by the pool or on the beach. You may see it from the room depending on the room - ask for the East Buildign and you will be ok. If you upgrade to Ocean Front at The Palms you will be guarantee that you will be ok, so that may be an option - I would still ask for the East Building. The most comparable to The Palms in terms of location and amenities is The Somerset Sterling Building which is next door and where you wont have any of these issues. Other alternatives: Point Grace - smaller boutique place, eampty lot on each side Le Vele - modern building, restaurant not on site but nearby. Very Quiet There is lots of other places but using The Palms which you selected as a guide for what you are looking for and with the concerns you raised, I would go with those.

I did look at La Vele but rooms aren't available. I'll look into the somerset as well as Point Grace. Thanks for the help... can't believe I'm even worrying about this. It's very unlike me - I just want/need this trip to be extra special.

Don't feel bad about worrying. I toured all the properties discussed, (except T&C Club, just the outside of that one). I agree with Provoman- if you want very quiet- Point Grace, they even have signs around the pool and property, reminding you to be quiet :-) Probably no kids will be there. The Somerset has more of an opulent look & feel. Again, I only toured. But, it was stunning. The only reason, I think The Palms, may not be the best fit, is because of kids. It is popular with families and that doesn't seem to go with what you are looking for. Have you thought of Parrot Cay? I don't know much about it, but it sounds incredible. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

caribfan07: It's funny that you just mentioned Parroy Cay - I was just reviewing their web site. It really does sound nice... Actually, I've been looking at all of the web sites and I can honestly say, I've never been more confused. Been looking at T&C Club, Point Grace, RWI (it was my early favorite), Parrot Cay, Somerset, as well as the Palms (where I currently have reservations). My priorities are: 1. Quite beach, pool, room 2. good service (don't expect great service) 3. clean, comfortable room Everthing else I can work around - but think I'll be disappointed if the resort I choose doesn't meet the three above criteria. I really do appreciate all of your opinions & advice.

We absolutely love the T&C Club, but I wouldn't pay the extra money to be "oceanfront." We paid for an oceanfront suite the first time we stayed there, but the property itself sits far back from the primary dune line making it irrelavant. A "poolside" or "oceanview" room is just fine. We'll be staying in a T&C Club two-bedroom oceanview room this June. If you want a very nice resort that looks and feels as though you have it all to yourselves, pick T&C Club. If you want a very nice resort that looks and feels as though you're sharing it with others, pick The Palms. BTW, if you're interested, the T&C Club was offering the 5th night free a couple of weeks ago. They'll probably give it to you if you email them and ask for it. Tell them you're staying at The Palms and thinking about changing.

Chester- as far as quiet means, do you mean, no kids.? Since Caribdesi has stayed before, he could let you know about that. Point Grace, The Somerset, Parrot Cay are in a different "league" than RWI. Not to say RWI won't be great. But it is not as luxurious, other than the 1 beachfront building RWI, also seems to be set further back from the beach. Okay, I'm casting my vote- Point Grace, based on your critera. Again, I've only eaten, toured, used the facilites at these resorts. I stayed at OCW. But that is my thought. Also, for quiet and getting away from it all, you should try the beach excursion that Blamona always recommends. You get dropped off on a deserted island, with a picnic lunch, umbrella, chairs and a phone and you call when you want to be picked up. (Blamona explains it much more poetically :-)

Chester- one more thought, that might help. Point Grace has this incredibly romantic feel too it. The Somerset has a very luxurious feel to it. The Palms has a very South Beach feel to it. Parrot Cay has a terribly expensive feel to it. (LOL, I just checked the prices) T&C Club I can't speak too. Good Luck!

Thanks, Caribfan07. I was trying to describe my impression of The Palms on another thread and you just nailed it -- a South Beach feel. When visiting there June 05, I kept walking around, thinking to myself, "Why does this feel so out of place...and why do I feel out of place." As for T&C Club, the feeling we get is in its name. You feel as though you're staying at a private club. When we last stayed there at the end of May, we never shared the beach with more than four other people and nearly always had the pool to ourselves. The only kids there were mine. T&C Club's small staff, from housekeeping to the owner, all know you by name and treat you like family. When you make a reservation over the internet, you're dealing directly with Rebecca, the owner. Service is discrete and non-intrusive. By that, I mean no one comes around with a squirt bottle and sunscreen at the pool (I hate that). They do have excellent twice-daily housekeeping. Almost forgot to mention that the islands best snorkeling from shore is just 100 yards away from T&C Club. Chester (hey, I just realized you're a fellow Georgian), you can't go wrong with any of the properties mentioned on this thread. Just pick the one that best meets your needs and wants. Most importantly , have a great trip.

Thanks to everyone who responded in this thread. I have successfully switched my reservation to The Turks and Caicos Club and already feel relieved. I am certain it was the right choice for me (on this trip and at this time). Now, I just have to wait. Tick, tock. Thanks again.
