Looked at TA today for this year's trip and wanted to see if there were posts about NWP (have things changed?). Noticed my post from last year is gone... don't know why, but also found the LONG thread about NWP and wanted to share our experience. Last year, we took our three year old twins to Turks and Caicos and wanted a place that was quiet, remote but with a good beach. We rented a spot at NWP and the pictures showed a great looking beach and pool. After we reserved, I found trip advisor. I read tons of not-so-great reviews about the beach, where we would be staying, as well as a 30-40 minute drive to get to the populated part of the island. All that being said, I wished I had rented a condo on the populated beach area (Grace Bay) rather than where we were. The drive was insane with two little ones, especially at night - through the dump - NO lights, lots of sad little dogs/puppies. Looking back, we must have been NUTS to drive this with two little ones, no cell phones, on such a deserted piece of road... can't imagine what would have happened if we broke down. We ended up making the drive almost every day of our stay because the beach was much more appropriate at Grace Bay than where we were staying for our kids. The restaurant at NWP was open some of the time, but nobody ever seemed to eat there. We truly got tired of the seclusion, plus wanted to eat out, too. The pool was great. The chemicals in the hot tub literally ate through our swimsuits by the end of the trip! There was a lot of turtle grass in the water and at the beach and yes, they did rake it up each day, although it was dumped on the side of the units where it attracted lots of bugs. I love to walk the beach when kids are resting - not something too great at NWP. If you walk to the end, where I believe there is a state park, the beach is fairly littered and lots of bugs that bit me - not pleasant! We did have a car, so we took little (if not long) adventures to different places each day. What I learned from this experience is that sometimes it is better to stay in the "popular" places when you haven't been to an island before, rather than to experiment with someplace remote. My kids wanted to be around other kids, which kept them occupied and they had fun interacting with other children. The beach at Grace Bay was better, CLEAN and safer for them as well, and SO swimmable - luckily we found a resort that didn't know/care we were using their pool! Read posts about the area you are thinking of before you bite - you may change your mind based on what others here have said. I found the posts here to be extremely accurate about Turks and NWP. Our vacation was fine - not great. I'd return to TandC in the future to see how the island progresses, but would stay on Grace Bay for sure This year we are trying a new place, heading to Grand Cayman Island. When I booked our trip, I looked to Trip Advisor FIRST for help and yes, we are staying on Seven Mile Beach this year. Hope this (long) opinion helps!

My opinion is, you should always stay in the "popular" area the first time. Always rent a car at least 1 day, check out the places you considered. You can always hang out somewhere else, or even better: Come back!!!!!
