We are a Caribbean family of 5 adults and 2 kids looking for a relaxing family vacation in Bequia in August. Those of you experience/ knowledgeable about the island, what would you recommend?

We don't need activities. Everyboyd is looking to chill out and sleep! What we need is a safe clean sandy beach right at the hotel, and cooking facilities.

What do you suggest?

If you're looking for a beach location you should look at the Lower Bay area. View the reviews of accommodation by clicking on the Hotels icon above.

Friendship Bay is on the Atlantic Ocean and the sea is rather rougher than Lower Bay which is on the Caribbean Sea. That said Friendhip Bay is charming, a fine horse shoe bay with a really nice beach and a good cooling breeze. Right on the beach is the Friendship Bay Beach Hotel I won't make a comment on the place only to say that it was deserted when I was there (but I go off season, you're going when it's busier). Also if you are thinking about Friendship, you will need a hire car or rely on taxi's to get you to and from the main town on the island (Port Elizabeth). Personally, I would stick to my earlier suggestion of Lower Bay.

Friendship Gardens apartments are locally run and are perfect for families. They are only 2mins from the beach and are beautiful inside. The owner is a local taxi driver who is able to organise excursions ,both on land and at sea.

I would highly recommend the Lower Bay area of Bequia. Great beach and location for everyone. Kingsville Apartments are very nice and they also have a house, Casablanca, which is managed by the owners of Kingsville (Burt and Kay King).

have a great time.

We'll be staying in a 2 bedroom unit in the lower beach area . ( Keegans ) It has a kitchen and was very reasonably priced. We will be there June 24 - July 1 so if you haven't reserserved by then I'll have put a review of the site we will be staying at OBXPAT recommends it and they've been very accomodating in every conversation we've had so far.

Hello,in response to your ad; I will definetely recommend Kingsville apartments. They are very clean, have all the homely needs to facilitate your family needs. You won`t be disapointed. I spent the easter regatta there this year and I will certainly return next year, God`s willing. I am also a caribbean(Vincentian). But I grew up in Canada, I needed somewhere, other than the main island to relax, and I am happy with my choice. I visit Bequai on a yearly . Oh did I mention the secretaries are very friendly and helpful. Please get back to me before and after your vacation.

Thanks for your comments.

I think we are going to be looking at Sea Shells Apt or Keegans. Trouble is, I havent been able to see any pictures of Keegans. Sea Shells looks ok.

there are helpful reviews of Keegans on the Caribbean board at www.lonelyplanet.com. I think at least one has links to pictures. I don't think their rooms have cooking facilities but they do rent apartments (Smitty's) that have this. Also consider De Reef apartments. These have so many regulars that they are usually unavailable in the high season but in August you might get lucky.
