How was you trip ?

We are due to sail with trade winds in a few week and have just read one report here on this forum and the service they received was a worry.

"TradeWinds Cruise Club - BEWARE" is the topics title

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g147379-i1174-k3…

We realize that all trips can have problems and only if they are persistent problems that these issues become a real problem .

My husband and I recent went on the Tradewinds cruise to St. Vincent and the Grenadines with Dirk and Joanna and had the time of our lives! It was so much fun and we can't wait to go on another one! Everything was absolutely beautiful and the boat was excellent! Can't say enough great things about it! You won't regret a second of it. Best vacation yet!

Three generations of my family just enjoyed a wonderful week together. Grandparents, parents and grandkids (2 years and 10 months) all had a wonderful time! 2 year old tells me he´s not going to daycare on Monday, he´s going sailing! Thanks for a wonderful holiday Johannes and Janine!

We just returned from a week on a catamaran with Tradewinds. We did it as a timeshare exchange with RCI. This was an amazing trip. We were on the Passion with Captain Dirk, who is excellent in all ways, a great sailor, dive captain and person. First mate Joanna is a great chef, mate, as well as a wonderful person. We felt lucky to have spent a week with such a wonderful crew. The cat was just as we expected. The public area was nice and cabins were just fine, very small and functional, which is what you expect on a sail boat. The food was excellent, above expectations and served with a smile by Joanna. The Grenadines were amazing! Some of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean and we have seen most of them. The water was crystal clear, great snorkeling and beautiful beaches. Tobago Cays is breathtaking and swimming with the sea turtles was great!

Were were lucky to have 3 other couples on board who were great fun and we all felt like family by the end of the trip.

There is a sales pitch to join the club, but it was fairly short and low pressure. Two of the 4 couples on board did sign on. We might have also but we already own time share in Aruba and with kids in college, finiancially it was just not in the cards. One of the best vacations we have ever taken!

If you are looking for a mega cruise ship type trip, this is not for you but if you are up for a sailing adventure, with great food, beautiful scenery, I would highly recommend Tradewinds.

We just returned from a FANTASTIC week with Joanna and Dirk in the Grenadines Nov. 17 to 24, 2012! It was truly our best vacation ever! The boat (Passion) was very nice, functional, and clean. Our room was as we expected on a sailing cat and worked out nice for us. I could have brought a third of the clothes I brought of course...he brought more than he used as well and that was not much to begin with. You really don't need to bring your own dive gear either. I did, but it was a wasted effort...they have everything you need and it's in good shape!

Dirk is a fantastic captain, well traveled adventurer and just an amazing person in general. He proved to be quite the medic as well as one of the passengers fell and cut her leg pretty bad on the dock the last night of our return to St. Vincent. Dirk went into action immediately with medical attention and even escorted her and her husband by cab to the urgent care for stitches. We were very impressed with the level of responsibility he took for everything during the week, including that unfortunate situation. He is truly a standup guy. He also provided diving tours, even with the other boat passengers. The other captain was not yet a dive master so they worked together to make sure everyone who wanted to dive could do it. Dirk took us to Orca Point and it is now on my list of one of the best places I've been diving in the world. I highly recommend doing it and looking for the sea horses. We saw one and I will never forget it!

Joanna is a sweet as can be. She prepared the most delicious meals for us 3 times a day, including a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving with stuffing and the whole works!!! I think she topped all Thanksgivings with that one! It was truly special as we discussed why we celebrate the holiday in the US and ate her delicious meal. She prepared everything with such a giving and gracious attitude, and always presented her meals with a smile.

Both Joanna and Dirk waited on us hand and foot at every meal and were always there in between to assist with anything else you needed. Dirk got up early every morning and prepared coffee. We felt honored, but also felt like we should be helping! They would never allow us to, no matter how many times we asked to help them. They felt like fast friends as we all shared our life experiences and laughed at some too! They are a young couple, but have lived a big life so far! They love their work on the boat and it really shows how much they enjoy it and appreciate where they are.

The itenerary of the island visits is great! Every meal was provided with a different location and each seemed to get better and better. All were breathtaking! Dirk was very particular about where he would place the boat for the best views or activities. Joanna and I teased him one day for moving a couple of times to find just the right spot!

As far as the timeshare sell, Dirk and Joanna were very low keyed about sales. They simply provided a very short presentation and details about the program, but didn't hound us all week to purchase anything. At the dock, Rob (the boss) was very pleasant and provided several options for membership. Almost made it impossible to turn down as they all made sense! If you love the water, traveling and great service...this program is great!!! We were so lucky to be able to come on an RCI exchange week, as I know those don't come available much and then it's only available 1 in 4 years to use through RCI. I didn't buy the membership on this trip, as I own too many timeshares as it is, but I have been thinking that I sure wish I could have!! The TradeWindes program is like none other and the services they provided to us we're first class.

I can't say enough about our trip and will post some photos soon. It was just an amazing time...relaxing, beautiful and lots to do IF you want to (or you can do nothing). We did kayaking, snorkeling, diving and some walking on the islands--Dirk will even let you take the wheel if you are interesed in sailing. I must say, it looks easier than it was to take the wheel and I have a new respect for what it's like to keep a boat that size going in one direction when the wind and water is so powerful.

This is the absolute best trip we've had and it was just what we needed! We definitely want to come back as soon as we can! We miss our new friends Joanna and Dirk! If anyone has questions about our experience, reply here and I will gladly answer :)

Trade Winds Cruise - November 3–9, 2012

It’s a rainy Northern California winter day and I find my mind drifting back to a month ago when I spent seven days with six strangers on a catamaran sailing around the Grenadines. While planning the trip, I imagined it would be great fun. We’ve bareboated in the Caribbean and basically knew what to expect. But I never could have predicted the many intangibles that made this such a special trip. The relaxed life onboard, the congenial company, the delicious and creative cuisine, the competent captain and perfect first mate, and experiencing all of this while sailing around Bequia, Mustique, Union, Tobago Cays, and Petit St. Vincent.

Trade Winds Cruise Club provided the comfortably fit out catamaran. Each couple’s cabin was small, but that was no surprise. We each had our own bath and that was a nice feature.

From the moment we boarded the Passion, it was clear we were in very professional hands. Dirk and Johanna welcomed us and made us immediately feel comfortable. Their excellent service and attention to detail never waivered throughout the trip. They are an amazing team.

Dirk kept us informed and welcomed participation. His knowledge of the water is obvious and reassuring. He’s a very competent sailor and we all appreciated his skills and the way in which he cared for the boat and us.

Our first mate /hostess Joanna was also amazing. Comfortable helping out on the boat, she also produced beautiful and delicious meals that were enjoyed as we to dined, lingered and planned the next adventure.

We had an extraordinary time and look forward to cruising again.
