 marriott - all inclusive

I saw that there is an all-inclusive option at the Marriott - is just a meal plan - or is it all-inclusive like Sandals or Beaches? Do they run poolside activities or have non-motorized water sports, e.g. kayak or windsurfing? I heard that it is best to eat at the local restaurants. But, my kids love drinking virgin pina coladas all day long. Is it worth the extra expense for the AI, for the potential drink bill?

thanks

if you're in mexico or dominican republic....i'd say go for the AI. DO NOT do it at the marriott! i checked into it already! it is super expensive and it is not AI as you know it! it was meals only! it would cost you a fortune and ruin your vacation! bring a blender and make them in your room if you have to for juniors!

Have your kids drink water. Their is a pizza stand by the pool which they will be happy with.

The Marriott AI is not comparable to eg. Sandals & Beaches AI, but it is more than just a meal plan. If you want to know what is included, please have a look here

paradisebymarriott.com/escapeinclusive/marri…

They run poolside activities & there is someone offering water sports. Kayaking is also available, but I don't think it is part of the one at the Marriott.

You also find a lot of good & nice local restaurants nearby which you should try. So not sure if you want to go for an AI. I guess it depends what the price difference is for you from a room only rate to the AI package.

My wife and I are going next month and are doing the all inclusive. I talked with others who have done it and say It can save you money if you drink "vacation moderatly" (whatever that means) and if you eat at the resort for thr majority of the time. I think we will try eating out a couple nights. I have no disire to be fighting at the end of the week with the hotel. And for us the cost was only 170 more a day? Seems worth it to me considering I'm told drinks are $9.00 and Breakfast for two is $60? I guess it comes down to what kind of travler you are. For me I rather not worry about it.

I hope you have a great time.......however, the folks that post negative comments regarding St Kitts are the ones that spend 100% of their time hanging out at the Marriott. There are so many cool beaches to go to......take the kids to Shipwreck (5 minutes from the Marriott) at noon so they can see the monkeys being fed. Wilbur the pig (reggae beach) is a big hit with the kids too. Thurday night at shiggety shack is a kids favorite as well. (bon fire and a fire eating limbo dancer)

Have fun.

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Aruba

I reserved yesterday for a July visit and they have a pay for 4 night get 3 nights free including breakfast buffet for two each day. This seems great as their breakfast buffet is very pricey. For $180 a night, before tax ($200 a night with tax) we will pay $800 for the 7 nights.

Since you can usually cancel a hotel reservation with a few days notice you may want to look into this to see if it is available during your stay. You can see it on www.marriott.com. It is listed as a sand dollars package and it clearly states that the 3 additional nights are free.

I guess I was not clear...I have no intention of hanging out at the resort the whole time I just dont want the hassle for a chance to save a few bucks. I have every intention of seeing the Island and trying the local flavor. But agian it depends on who you usually travel. I prefer to have the hotel stuff paid for and try the local stuff as well. People with a negitive image of the hotel also complain about the prices and to me I can live it up there with no hassle or a Ripped off feeling?

We just got back and stayed at the Marriott with the Escape! Inclusive plan. The price we paid for it was well worth it considering the cost of food and beverage on the island.

Don't be surprised though that this Marriott is not exactly up to normal Marriott standards, I would say it's a three star resort comparable to most RIU resorts. Some of the service people, especially at the Calypso Cafe, are unfriendly. We had a much better time at the Marriott in St Thomas, which is up to Marriott standards.

Also, be advised that the dinner options are limited, but okay for a short stay. The steakhouse is closed Sunday through Tuesday, the food is great but it took us two hours to complete a meal (extremely slow but friendly service). There are only two other proper restaurants: the seafood restaurant and the italian restaurant, both of which are excellent. The three restaurants all require reservations.

Your other dinner-time options include the Calypso Cafe(it has a very small food menu but great burgers), the sushi bar (not included in the inclusive package), and the small menu at the lobby bar (mostly appetizers but they are delicious).

Room Service is not included (not a big deal in my opinion).

After two days, my wife and I decided we didn't want to go to the Calypso restaurant for breakfast. The food really wasn't that great. We found it more enjoyable to grab breakfast sandwiches, fruit, and coffee drinks at the Calypso Cafe.

There are many, many, options for lunch. Our favorite was the Bohemia Beach Pool Bar; it has great food and great views. You could possibly also go there for dinner but they close at 6 p.m.

Also, only the extremely top shelf liquors aren't included (they give you a list on check-in) and unless you order them by name, they aren't in any of the drinks offerred.

The best thing I can tell you is: if you don't pay for the Escape Inlusive package, you definetly won't want to pay for the food and drinks at the resort. The average drink is $8, the average dinner for two is $120, and every bill has a 10% service charge added to it. If you do book the inclusive package and you want to tip, either do it with cash or it will be billed to your credit card.

In my opinion, all-inclusive packages are always the way to go. I saved our receipts from our six day stay at the Marriott and they total over $1000 for just the two of us.
