Timothy Beach Resort VS. Marriott |
|
I know this is kind of an apples to oranges deal but I cannot decide which one to stay at. . .I am worried that the Marriott will feel too commercial and that Timothy Beach is too run down. I also understand that you can walk from one resort to the other? How far of a walk is it? I'm looking to lay on the beach and relax. . do some scuba diving and maybe a tour to Nevis . . .any opinions as to the feel of each resort would be helpful, thanks and happy travels. I just returned from a week in St. Kitts doing hotel inspections. Spent one night at the Marriott and two nights at Timothy Beach Resort. Although the Marriott is luxurious, the water is very rough as it is located on the Atlantic side. The rooms are gorgeous and has all the amenities. I found the hotel too big and the decor didn't reflect the caribbean. You could be anywhere. I also didn't like the over use of plastic (railings, beach shelters, etc) There was line ups for breakfast as well. I find people that stay at the Marriott tend to never leave the property and miss out on the beauty of the island. Highly recommend Timothy Beach Resort. It is located on the Caribbean so was water is calmer and located near lots of fun and inexpensive beach bars. mrxshiggidyshack.com Staff are friendly and helplful (Jason, Virgil & Richard) You can snorkel beside the hotel and enjoy other water sports. I stayed in Room 32 which was on the ground floor and had a large bedroom with livingroom and full kitchen. Unit faced the pond and was clean and spacious. The kitchen's decor was a bit dated. Great for long stays. Enjoyed breakfast in their Sunset Cafe. Great place to watch the sunset. The Marriott is about a ten minute walk to Timothy Beach. I just returned from a week at the Marriott and I agree completely with Liz's post on experience at the Marriott. However, the 2 hotels are completely different. The Marriott is all that Liz mentioned but not necessarily in a negative way. If you are looking for a more laid back, sit outside in an open "beach hut" type dining than stay at Timothy Beach. If you prefer air-conditioned luxurious dining, stay at the Marriott. We stayed at the Marriott but did NOT do the all inclusive. This gave us the option of popping over to Timothy's to catch a sunset over a "magnetic monkey", and dining at some of the local establishments, which I would personally recommend. Enjoy! We just spent 4 nights at TBR. We were in 42C a second floor room with a huge deck on the ocean side with a great view. TBR shares a small parking lot with Mr.X's. Its that close. Some if not all the units are privatly owned. At least three are for sale right now. This could make decorating/furnishing inconsistent. It seemed as if the owner of our unit was squeezing everything he could out of it. Our unit was tired. The corners of the bathroom floor were cruddy. The tub was stained, the toilet had rusty bolts. A phone cord hung from the ceiling. There was just one side table, one desk with drawers, one chair. The mini-fridge was on the floor, the tv was on a small table. The fold up luggage rack was broken. It really wouldn't take much to add a few things: another chair or two, a table for the fridge, perhaps another side table and bureau. On the walls were two interesting prints and one terrible paint by number totally out of place. The AC worked fine and was not loud. I saw no more that three bugs (ants)in the room. Nothing is new here. The pool is a scene right out of a 007 flick circa 1966. It was clean though, and well kept up. Now don't take me wrong, we liked the place, and the staff, particularly Jason was very nice. We would stay there again. But if you are a clean freak you'll be dissapointed. Also look at the prices. We spent $150/night. I'm guessing the Marriott is a lot more. We went to the Marriott one night just to look around. There were at least two conventions going on. The place is large and loud. That opinion was shared by a couple we met the next day who were staying there. Two bands played simultaneously:one inside one outside. The wind was howling on the beach. A real lot of people walked to the beach at TBR from the direction of the Marriott. I would not stay at the Marriott. Report as inappropriate | ||||||
