We will be traveling with our families next summer to Cayman Brac for the first time - ages 6 - 66. We have been to GC several times and usually stay up in West Bay. We always have a car and enjoy snorkeling all around the island. We have been known to use Testudo's notes a time or two to find new places. Nobody dives. I have several questions.
1. I have read about the red markers for shore dive sites. Is there a comprehensive list of these sites?
2. Which sites will be most appropriate with the kids/our parents? My husband and I will probably check places out on an early morning snorkel, but would love a good starting point.
3. Do I really need to switch to boots and open heels? Most of us have full fins. I've read that some entries may be more treacherous/more urchin-filled, etc. The kids have boots and we usually have them go finless if it's a more difficult entry. I thought about the Zeagle travel fins - the one with the velcro closures. Stopped by the local dive shop to check them out and they thought they were ridiculous. They offered a really nice pair of hard soled boots and some new fins. They also said that there really isn't shore diving on the Brac, but I've done enough looking around to see that isn't really the case.
Looking forward to a new experience! Thanks in advance.
