Tour options?

Will be visiting via cruise ship in Sept. Any one know of a tour (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?) that would include more than a stop at stingray city? We have been there before, but will be the first time for the new son-in-law. So we would like to add something different for us. Also how are the jellyfish that time of the year?

Some of the vendors vying for business at the pier will be the cheapest. Just be sure to set expectations regarding quality and and quantity by the old adage "You get what you pay for".

Totally agree. You get what you pay for. If you want a nicer boat, more amenities, greater choice, less people, you pay up. Stay over visitors do not have options for discounted arms and legs and to be honest what one person thinks is expensive for a specific outing some one else may think it is worth paying up for.

Wouldn't worry about the jellies. The stretch between Mother's Day (UK) and Fathers Day (same) is really when the bothersome little guys can be around depending solely on wind and current. So unless Mother Nature has a trick up her sleeve September should not be an issue.

See the very first "Top Question" in the Top Questions to the Right "Where to find shore excursion information and recommendations for cruise ship passengers."

And yes, agreed with above. I'm not sure what the current price is for an arm and a leg but I'm not aware of any tours that would qualify as such. Regardless, there are several 3-stop/half-day snorkel tours that include SRC.

Jellyfish? This is not something to be concerned about at any time of the year.

6. Re: Tour options?

In regard to your concern about jellyfish: In Cayman there are rare sightings of the Portugese Man of War jellyfish, typically when there is a wind from the south or southwest (the prevailing winds are from the northeast).

The jellyfish-related annoyance you may have heard about in Cayman is actually from the tiny larvae of Sea Thimble jellyfish that cause dermatitis, called "sea itch" that occurs intermittently typically between mid-April and mid-July. It can occur occasionally anytime between March and August. You can read more about sea itch at

www.caycompass.com/cgi-bin/CFPnews.cgi…

But in September you should be well clear of that.

The Tours Cayman 4 stop tour (starfish, stingray sandbar, barrier reel and coral gardens) that msmejkai took was designed for "on island guests" - the timing may (or may not) be workable for 5cheers's time on the island. Check out Tours Cayman "tours ship" excusions.

They also offer a three stop cruise ship tour that's three hours and costs $30. Same stops except starfish is not included
