If you live in Fort Lauderdale, you can go to GC in June and July for $17 o/w on Spirit! Total with taxes is about $150.

Just be very careful if you have to transfer with Spirit. They caused us to miss a flight and blamed us for poor planning. We were making a Spirit to Spirit connection and they lost my husband in their computer system despite the fact that I had a print out of his flight reservation. Then, they criticized us for booking our connection to close together! I would never fly Spirit again for that reason. But, if I lived in FLL, I might have to reconsider for a $17 flight!

I'd also recommend travelling - if you can - with only carry on luggage. They lost our luggage, it went to Santo Domingo, and it was a real pain in the bum for our vacay.

Down in GC now. We had the $17 fare from FLL. The airline was great. First time with Spirit. We were lucky to take advantage of this wonderful fare.

I prepaid for checked baggage and a reserved seat.

Life is good here!

FSU~~Good for you!! That was a fantastic rate! We have flown with Sspirit a lot and they can sometimes be a pain, but you can't beat the specials!

P.S. Sarasota is my favorite place in Florida!

We just returned from our trip to GC and also flew Spirit - Chicago/FLL/GC. We, thankfully, had no problems whatsoever. I was actually impressed because when we were in FLL and had already gotten on the plane to Chicago, they made an announcement we were going to be delayed because they were waiting for about 12 people who were coming in from St. Thomas and the plane was running late. When they all boarded the plane, we were only running about 15 minutes behind, which we made up during the flight. I was impressed they even waited for these people, which they didn't have to do.

It's a sad state of affairs with the airlines when the best news from people's experiences is that nothing bad happened. Contrast that sentiment to what it was prior to airline de-regulation where you'd hear glowing stories of people being treated with care and comfort. I know that was a long time ago but in a business where service is #1, you'd think there'd be a market for high end care. Closest domestic carrier that I can think of is Jet Blue. Some international carriers eat our lunch when it comes to customer service.

How true! Now you can only hope that your plane actually takes off without being stuck on the tarmack for hours or even cancelled; that you don't miss your connections; that there's no fights on the plane over overhead space(now that the airlines are charging for checked bags)or lack of food & water; and that you arrive with at least some of your luggage. And don't forget you're now paying big bucks for the priviledge of going thru all of this!!

Good points BarbP...there are bus lines that treat customers better. All this will reach critical mass at some point I think. Then government will take over again...not sure that would be the best solution but can it be any worse than the current?
