Traveling Alone |

I'll be traveling to Grand Cayman Sunday 5/25 for a week on my own as my traveling companions backed out at the last minute. Staying at Plantation Village on 7 Mile Beach. Any recommendations or suggestions to keep me busy for a week other than sit in the sun and read a book? Though I have to admit, even that sounds good right about now. I'm in my late 50's so party hardy is not in the picture. Is there a grocery nearby? I figure I'll just hang out at the resort, but would like to socialize at a bit. Any places nearby that I can walk to for a drink or something to eat? Thanks everyone. I am really looking forward to this getaway to recharge my batteries. |

We are owners at Plantation Village, so we go every year. It is at the very end of 7 Mile Beach which is a good news/bad news story. Bad news, the beach after several hurricanes through the years is MUCH smaller than it used to be. The good news, it is close enough to walk to town if you choose, although it is a long walk. It is also a very quiet resort. It is very close to the Marriott, so you can walk to their beach and order food/drinks if you choose. Also, we often walk to the Reef Grill for lunch/dinner/or just drinks. It's easy to meet people there. There are also several restaurants and shops across the road, not too far of a walk. There is a grocery store on the way from the airport with everything you would need. I would highly recommend walking or taking one of the bikes downtown and buying fresh fish one afternoon from the fishermen and grilling it. I would also recommend renting a car at least one day and exploring the island. Stop at ICOA in the Seven Mile Beach Shops (turn right when you leave Plantation Village) and buy coffee an expensive, but tasty breakfast treat and drive around to Rum Point and spend the day. There are wonderful hammocks for lounging in and a bar/restaurant to get lunch. The Botanical Gardens are that way too. Check out several other posts in this forum for other things to see and do. One of the things we love about Grand Cayman is that you are much safer than some other islands, so you will be fine traveling alone. Have fun!!!

mustangsally, Why not learn to dive? If your resort is where I think it is, you are in walking distance of at least one dive shop. See if a local dive shop near home will do your classroom work and you can do the rest in one of the best dive sites in the Carribean. Enjoy! CTR
