So many islands, so little time...

My husband and I have the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean this coming winter or next spring. We have 7 nights (free) at the RCI hotel of our choice. (Yippee!) Question is: which island?

Our experience in the sun has been limited to Hawaii - Kauai is our fave. Grand Cayman Island appeals to us, but we may be missing out on a better match for us.

We want a luxury condo on a great beach, with a comfortable climate (not too hot) and little chance of hurricanes. Street safety is important to us, as is political stability and fair treatment of the local populace. (Yes, we can be nauseatingly politically correct.) And a foreign language is not a problem.

Our outdoor activities are pretty tame. We love the water for swimming or boating, and might attempt parasailing or a horseback ride. We also love good food, a couple of drinks, and checking out interesting neighborhoods. And any trip is not complete without extensive browsing at funky local shops.

We may be travelling with our 22-year-old son, and/or another couple who love the nightlife.

Any advice we can get would be really appreciated. Here's to paradise planning!

Thanks so much, Blamona. RCI has hotels in Aruba, St. Maarten, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Dominican Republic and Grand Cayman.

Grand Cayman should be your choice of destination as the other two will probably be too small for you. Try to stay at Seven Mile beach, as this is probably the best beach on the island.

There's no street problems as the people are very friendly. Political stability and treatment of locals is no problem either.

Seven Mile beach offers all the water sporting facilities you'd be interested in, and if you like snorkelling in coral reefs walk up to West Bay and swim about 100ft out and you'll be with turtles, stingrays and every fish of every colour.

Every type of food you can imagine is available on the island, although you might find it slightly more expensive that normal.

There are a couple of nightclubs for your son to frequent, so he should be well catered for.

You must:

1) Visit Rum Point

2) Visit Stingray City

3) Take a sunset cruise on the Jolly Rodger

4) take a trip on the Atlantis Submarine
