I'm looking for some travellers who have been to Guana more than once over the past 10 years or so. We were there in '97 and want to return. Guana's not for everybody, so I think the only way to get the real story is from a repeat visitor.

-the reefs - are they healthy? They were in '97. Best snorkelling I've ever done on some parts of the island.

-the rooms - are they really in disrepair?

-the food - I thought it was fine in '97. Not 5*, but fine for the Caribbean.

-the wine - is it really "rotgut". I thought is was avg house wine. Host was a little stingy though, only opened one bottle of red per table of six.

-the hosts - anything to share? Fantastic hosts in '97, Jarecki's were there part of our stay also and were very welcoming (Mr., wife, mistress, pilot and the whole gang!).

Sorry this is so long. Thanks all for your help!

I've been to Guana the last two years - and I'm going again this year. I never experienced anyone stingy with wine, the food was really good and the rooms and terraces, though not very "decorated", are very comfortable and in keeping with Guana's style. The entire experience has been fabulous for us. We met great people, did great diving and snorkeling. We even hiked a couple of trails with other guests, and that was great too. The staff especially make you feel completely at home and cared for.

They have a new website that anyone thinking of going should see because it is so informative - it even lists house wine and massage choices. It's www.guana.com.
