After long search we have narrowed down to these two resorts--we want casual luxury, good food, beautiful beaches & water and activities for our 4 year old--with and without us. Can anyone give us some feedback. Travelling from Boston so travel time is a concern but not a dealbreaker. Thanks!

Travel time should be similar, unless you can get a non-stop to STT. Then it’s just the Caneel launch over to St. John. Travel to the BVI involves Tortola and clearing customs, not a big deal. But we could never find a direct flight to Tortola and had to change in San Juan, never our favorite itinerary.

I believe LDB has more structured activities geared to children, but that impression may be obsolete.

If you’re there for a while, they have an island-hopping package that some friends have done.

I always think that st.john and caneel are more child friendly. We love both places and I believe that little dix has under gone major renovations. They have an island hopper package which gives you the best of both worlds by splitting your stay and they bring you to the other resorrt from their own dock. Both are great choices...but I'm leaning towards caneel with the four year old.

Thank you so much for the input--it is truly appreciated. Now I have one more to throw into the mix--The Buccaneer St Croix--feedback?

No comparison the beaches on st. john and the B.V.I.are great and the feelings towards tourists are much less hostile from my own experience.

I spent two weeks on Croix a few years back. That was enough for me. I think you were barking up the right tree previously.

Both properties are "sister" properties. If you go to their website, they have packages where you can go to both, including transfers!
