We are chartering a sailboat for a few days. The crew are the owners of the boat. Normally we tip the crew becuase quite often they do not own the boat, they are hired by the owners. My question is, because the owners are crewing this time, are we required to tip them???

Not required but it is customary to tip if your feel the service warrants it. The amount is up to you. How many services did they provide and above all did you have a good time? Esp-ecially if you might go back in the future.

I was surprised to read the first response to this post, and I firmly agree with the 2nd response.... ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tip.

It is the responsibility of your broker (the agent you used to arrange the trip) to tell you what the customary tip is.

Disembarking a charter boat without leaving a tip is no different than leaving a restaurant without tipping. So unless it is the absolute worst experience you've ever had, TIP!!
