Caneel vs. Little Dix... |
|
I am hooked on these two properties. I am trying to decide which one would be better for my husband and I (late 20's). We are looking to relax, be on a beautiful beach and enjoy a little romance. Is there a difference between the two? Are there any local hangouts with some nightlife, such as I have heard about on St John? Is one resort more adult friendly than the other? Are there air-conditioned rooms on either/both resorts? Besides The Baths, are there any other hot spots to hit in Virgin Gorda?
I appreciate any and all advise from seasoned travelers that have experienced these gorgeous resorts. We want to make this trip unforgetable, as it may be our last before settling down with a family!!

I'd read lots of posts about both hotels to give you some flavor (and what some might complain about). Read the websites at rosewood.com - you'll learn much about the two. That said, as they are "sister" resorts - they have an "island hopping" package - we did that a few times until deciding we really like LDB the best. Why: for us - smaller resort, family friendly (we now have a daghter), in the BVI (I'm an Anglophile), quiet smaller island, we think a bit more low key and we like the people who work at LDB better. You can't go wrong, I don't think with either. More night life in Cruz Bay than on Virgin Gorda. There are more beaches at Caneel - and some don't allow kids...that may be important to you. I think all of the rooms are now airconditioned - I know this is the case at LDB. Depending on the time of year, you may not need the A/C but we typically go in July/August - so always use it then! And glad to have it then . Report as inappropriate

Thank you very much for your input! I am thinking we may do the island hopping deal. Did you do the meal plan, or not? If not....how much money would be needed for meals for 7 nights/8 days for two adults. I know this is going to vary, but an approx. would be great! Report as inappropriate

I can't speak to Caneel, but my husband, teenage son and a pal spent a week at Little Dix 2 yrs. ago. Definately go with the meal plan there. There isn't much in the way of restaurants or other resorts, for that matter, on Virgin Gorda. If you REALLY want to leave the property, you can rent a small car and hold on to your hat as you traverse the island to the way far Eastern end and get yourself to the Virgin Gorda Yacht Club (I may have the name wrong as it has been a while). BUT, the restaurants at LD are very nice and the service is lovely. So relaxing. We ended up having every meal at the resort and didn't regret a moment. Good Luck. Report as inappropriate

Hi: I've been to both often. I'd def rec Little Dix over Caneel. I know they say that the beaches etal on St. John are A1, but I liked the unspoiled, uncrowded beaches at Little Dix on Virgin Gorda. Everything from the rooms to the beaches to the restaurants were more romantic. (Though there is a greater choice for food at caneel.). As for the meal plan, TAKE IT. You wouldn't believe the price of a bottle of Coke on these islands. The meal plan is def the way to go. Have Fun. Report as inappropriate
