La Marine, in Grand-Case is my favorite French restaurant by far. It honestly had everything I was looking for in a dinning experience. It is situated at the left end of the Grand Case strip (facing the ocean) and is romantically situated on the beach.
The setting was simple and elegant, as the name implies, in blues and whites. My favorite part is sitting on the balcony and watching the ocean. The sound of the water lapping the beach is all the music you need there, although they do have low key live music on some nights.
Two dishes that you will fall in love with:
- Margret de Canard Rossini: Duck Breast with fried foi gras on top. You will never taste anything more decadent and the sauce that it came with was amazing. I felt like a French king at court.
- Sole Meuniere: My wife had the sole and fell in love with it. It was, quite simply, an amazing piece of fish and came with these delicious little steamed potatoes in a lemon butter sauce. Wow, talking about this is making me very very hungry.
When you go I would make sure to order at least these two dishes and arrange to share because you won't want to miss out on either.
We loved our dinner so much we went back for lunch the next day and were again surprised. The menu was totally different and creative. You order 2-3 things on the menu and the chef assembles your plate for you. My salad was light and excellent and my wife dared to try the hearts of duck! We loved it. When we were done eating we went down to the beach right in front of the restaurant and sipped on cocktails for the rest of the afternoon.
If your going to St. Martin or Grand-Case you won't be sorry if you go here. We would have gone back for dinner again but our plain was leaving that day. Of well, there is always next trip.
