La Plantation, Alamanda, or Grand Case Beach Club? |
|
Hi- my hubby and I (both mid 30's) can't decide which hotel to book- we are going to be in St Martin for 2 nights before we head over to Anguilla. Want to be close to a nice beach, and preferably within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Price range around $150 (in mid May) a night. All these places sound nice, but very different from one another. Can't decide! We won't have a car but understand we'll need to take a taxi from time to time and that's okay, but we didn't want to rely on taxis for everything we do. Some people suggested Maro but we didn't want to be in a hotel that is right under a flight path! Also, I'm a bit confused. It says on this site that La Plantation is in Marigot, yet it's within 5 minutes walking distance to Orient Beach- isn't Marigot and Orient Beach on opposite sides of the island? Thanks for any advice you can provide! |

Correction to my above post- I meant Maho, not Maro!

La Plantation is 10 min walk to orient beach . They have a nice breakfast with the room . Have stayed there and it is a nice place. Alamanda is 5 min to beach never stayed there.GCBC is near Grand Case and has a beach but it is about 5 min drive to orient from there but it is also very nice hotel.

I suggest the Grand Case Beach club as you have a very nice beach just steps away from your suite, a small pool, and a town full of fantastic restaurants to choose from. You can always hire a taxi to Marigot for a day of shopping, and sight seeing. If you are the sporty type, you can also take the road that runs behind the GC Airport and walk to Orient Beach.. It will take about 25 minutes or so, but then you get to cool off in the water at OB...

Thanks guys, however, I'm still so confused! Thanks again, though, for your input.

Are these your only choices? Have you thought about Holland House or Passargranan (sp - I always mess that one up!) in Philipsburg? Meet all your criteria and you will only need a taxi to your Anguilla ride.

I have a slightly different idea. Stay at Grand Case Beach Club and rent a car. Driving is easy and by the time you pay for taxis, you could have rented the car anyway. Rent from St Louis Car Rental and you can drop it off at the ferry when you go to Anguilla. St Louis (Marius) will meet you at the airport and then meet you again in Marigot when you take the ferry. You can spend the evenings by walking thru Grand Case and you will find some of the best restaurants in the Caribbean. Instead of using the beach at Grand Case, use the car to go to Orient for a day and Pinel Island for a day. They are both on the French side and not so long a drive. Much better than the small beach in front of the GCBC. The actual hotel is not fancy but very clean, convenient, and the views are pretty nice. You really won't do better for (2) nights. St Martin is meant to be explored and it's really very easy to drive around. Grand Case is not very far from Marigot and the ferry to Anguilla.
