oyster bay beach resort and dining options in area... |
|
i was told in a previous post that car would be necessary in order to go out to restaurants and shopping being that there is not much around there within walking distance. as far as dining options...are there any family friendly restaurants in the area? how far from hotel? is food reasonable or is outrageously expensive to eat out? thanks mina |

All restaurants are very family f riendly, so no worries there. Dining can be cheap to very, very expensive. I understand there is a very nice restaurant on site. Just a short walk down the beach is Mr Busby's and Mrs. B's. Mr's B's has arguably the best ribs on the island. Only open during the day. Mr. Busby's turns into Daniels by the Sea in the evenings. Both of these I would call fairly inexpensive. You can take a water taxi to the other side of the pond to Dingy Dock. Great food, very inexpensive. You can get a GREAT DINNER FOR $10 - $12. Picnic tables and a good bar and happy hour. In the same location is Captain Olivers, a resort with a restaurant that gets mixed reviews. They supposedly have a pretty good buffet night, but not sure what night. The folks at OBBR can help you out there. Of course, there is now the Westin on the same beach. Heard the restaurants are quite expensive. If you rent a car, you can travel the island for many more dining options and beaches, as you may find the waves at OBBR a little rough for your little one. Le Galion (about a 10 minute drive) or Anse Marcel (perhaps 20 minutes) are very calm for children most of the time. Grand Case restaurants are typically gourmet, but there are several lolo's at one end. Lolo's are BBQ type places where you can get great food for little $. You will see them at roadsides all over the island. Usually a steel drum cut in half for cooking- you'll smell the wonderful food cooking as you drive by! The ones in GC are a little more fancy, but still same idea. Lots of beach restaurants/bars on Orienht. Don't let the word "bar" here scare you away with the baby. Not a bar as you would expect at home. Kids are welcome. Usually with a big fuss made over them! A place we see lots of kids during the day is Buccaneer Beach Bar on Kim Sha beach in SImpson Bay. Big wooden deck for them to run around on (and ride their bikes) on a nice calm beach. You probably have a kitchen of some sort at OBBR. Save some $$ by buying a few groceries. Have breakfast on your balcony and pack a lunch for the beach. We pack a soft sided cooler in our suitcase just for this purpose. Tons of great dining options all over the island, you will have fun exploring. | ||||||
