Does anyone have any information on the La Siesta Residence - location, proximity to airport, good area of beach, etc? It is a new 11-unit complex beachfront, supposedly close to the draw bridge at Simpson Bay. I have never been to St. Martin and wanted to make sure it was in a good area!

Not that I'm aware of. This is where the Bella Mare condo is located that we are considering renting, but I can't find any other information on it other than it's a new property and they are currently selling units.

This is from a real estate investor website:

www.4321.co.il/property/property.asp…

The only other place I've seen it is the VRBO website (listing #87855)

Boy, I cannot picture where that is at all. It looks very nice, a little expensive - but by the pics, you will get what you pay for!

It says it's ocean front and close to the draw bridge. I just can't place it.. That's the area of the Royal Palm Resort. Next door to Atrium where we stay. It's nice there, but that's Kim Sha Beach. It's a ok beach, and the area has great restaurants etc.

Hmmmmm..

We're going during the low season, it it will be $1575 for the week...I guess that is a little high - but we want to be directly on the beach so I'm fine with that! Besides, it's our honeymoon :-) If you go back between in the next few months and happen to see it let me know! turnerj116@yahoo.com

SXMLover - Do you think we would prefer a villa on Kim Sha Beach/Simpson Bay area or on Dawn Beach? We found another villa rental right on Dawn beach that looks beautiful as well - and I've heard the snorkeling is great there. Any input on the pros and cons of each would be great!

hi sxm lover/turnerj116-- im a local on the island and i believe la siesta is on simpsonbay beach, not kimsha. kimsha was beautiful once upon a time.. but unfortunately it is murky/full of trash etc. When you drive from atrium and royal palm towards the airport via the main road, you do not see the simpsonbay beach. but it is located in the back road of that area going towards the airport. the beaches there are very quiet and clean. :-) I think a cheaper alternative that is also in that area is a place called The Horny Toad guest house haha.. but its quite nice as well, maybe not as fancy/expensive as la siesta residence,.. depends what your looking for. If you would like some feedback or advice from locals maybe you can go to the daily herald forum. www.thedailyherald.com and scroll down to the forum

they know the island better than anyone else :-)

The simpsonbay beach area have very secluded beaches. I think any hotel around the airport in simpson bay beach is around 5-10 minutes away from the airport. i think you might have the occassional irritation of hearing airplanes land.. but you will get used to it.. and you can even have a drink and watch them land if you go to sunset beach bar.. your in a good and safe area. of course st.maarten is not crime free,.. it is not a fantasy land but.. i have not heard of any crimes in that area in my 25 years :).. i would warn you however.. to be careful of going to mullet bay beach at night.. its quite a ways away from simpsonbay beach,.. and although its an amazing beach.. becareful going there at night

enjoy your vacation :-)

oh one more thing.. dawn beach is a nice area.. depends what u want. simpsonbay your close to a lot of action,.. its around a lot of tourist activity and you always have something to do

dawn beach is much more quiet and secluded. its also very nice, depends what u enjoy doing on ur vacation. it is also relatively close to orient beach - very nice beach.

a con of simpsonbay is the noise of the airplanes landing.. u will probably get used to it.. but some ppl see it as an issue. i used to live right next to the airport and our house had sound proof glass.. but of course we never left the airco on 24/7

if ur looking for action, night life socializing -- go to simpsonbay beach.. u have ur secluded spot but ur right next to all the action

if ur looking for quiet spots, secluded away from the action then i would suggest dawn beach. a nice snorkeling spot is isle pinel.. in the back of the main part of the little island.. beautiful snorkeling. this is also closer to dawn beach

Next to the orient beach, just before the grand case airport their is a road that you take... you can go down there... it will take you to a very open spot.. they do a lot of paint ball and atv stuff around there.. but this is where the boat leaves to go to isle pinel.. a very small island off of st.martin like 10 or 15 minutes in a local boat.. they have great ribs etc at the restaurant there.. and the boat comes back every 30 minutes or so.. im local and i love it there.. there are lots of tourist there as well. i would recommend it :)

Thanks so much for all the information! I think we would be happier at Simpson Bay Beach because we can lay on the beach all day and find plenty to do at night. I'm sure we'll visit all of the other beaches during our stay to determine what we like the best for future reference :-) I think we may take our chances with Bella Mare and hope for the best!!!

Sounds like a good choice. One of the best things about the island is if you don't like where you are, there so many different places to travel to. And nothing's that far away.

Enjoy!
