good luck, the french love to smoke and most places don't restrict the smoking. I have never noticed it to be very bad and I hate the smell. They are pretty good with changing your rooms if you have a problem with all the places I have stayed. Cottages de Longvilles on the french side, has timeshares and they did not seem to have the smelling smoke feel to them at all. They have a great beach view if you get one on the end and top floors. How much time are you going to spend in the room anyway????
