I went there with my girldfriend last year and loved it. Best vacation ever. Keep in mind that the Great Bay Beach hotel is simple and that's why I liked it so much. The town is close by too and great to go to a couple of afternoons. Rent a car for a day and explore the island.Not sure about the recent renovations, but I hope they don't change too much.As for stary dogs, I do recall seeing two hanging around the hotel. By no means are there dozens and dozens of dogs walking around. I didn't see any being beaten. Not sure if it was a good thing, but me and my girlfriend brought food to the dogs once or twice (away from the hotel).My girlfriend is an animal lover as well and wasn't affected by seeing two dogs hanging around the hotel. The situation may have been overblown from whoever you heard it from.You guys will have a great time.

We went for a week in June and paid about $2,400 after taxes. Keep in mind that we live in Toronto so it's not as long a flight as it is from the UK. We also booked extremely last minute (3 days before).

If you are going for two weeks be sure to take some of the side trips that are offered. The day trip to Anguilla on a catamarran is amazing and is well worth it.

Also, the food at Great Bay beach isn't spectacular. Breakfast is great, lunch is good, but the dinner is lacking. At lunch, be sure to ask for the menu. There is a buffet but there is also a separate menu for items such as club sandwiches, french fries, and so on. Ignore the prices on the menu as we did not have to pay anything extra for ordering from it.
