Purchasing Food and Beverage for Villa In Soufriere

We are travelling to St Lucia at the end of March 2011 and are wondering where would be the most affordable grocery store or market in Soufriere to buy food, fruit, booze, etc..also do we need a 4x4 vehicle to get around on the back roads? Any suggestions would be appreciated we are going to tour around on our own and see as many sights as much as possible and try to only dine out on a few special occasions. We are flying into Vieux Fort.

Hello Xplorergirl,

We are heading to St. Lucia in October 2011 and are staying at Crystals outside of Soufriere. Like you, we will be doing some cooking at the villa and looking for some good local eats as well.

I would love to hear how things went for you and if you can proivde us information on groceries, cheap local eats/drinks and any local tours you did. We are planning on renting a jeep so getting around will not be an issue and we are use to travelling and finding our way.

Hope you had a great holiday and look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Nathalie

We will be coming for 2 weeks in August (1st time) and can't wait to experience the local culture - we love trying new things - that's what life is all about - right? So looking forward to St. Lucia. I have read many of your posts and they have been extremely helpful - made notes of many local resturants/farmer's market... once again I thank you

As previously mentioned Super J's is a good place to stop en route. There are 2 - the one at Gablewoods is the better of them. It is on the main roadway up the west coast as you turn north past the western end of the runway at Hewannora - 2nd intersection on the right.

In Soufriere, there is Evolines for groceries. There are a number of good local eateries - we ate at Petit Peak lunch, Big Bamboo, Whispers and Still Beach House - all were good.
